New(for me)CZ82
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:08:12 PM »
Found a CZ82 on Armslist last week and couldn't pass it up. One mag, mfg date'90, 80-90% finish, but scratched up.
Made it to the range yesterday, around 100 rds with 2FTF's, but they were my fault.  The guy I got the gun from had 8 rds of ammo(Russian surplus and Blue Bear) so I thru in some junk ammo I had for a real mixed magazine. It was perfect shooting WWB and Fiocchi.
As far as accuracy, I shot the bull out at 7yds and shot one mag at 15yds just for fun. Old eyes, but still a 6-8 inch group  :o

I did have a couple of problems when I cleaned it after I was done.
Before I went shooting, I just gave it a quick once-over and a couple drops of oil.
I gave it a complete cleaning afterwards and here's what went wrong.  Removed the grips, for access, and the pin that holds the trigger guard in place dropped out.
I didn't notice this until I went to re-assemble the gun.  Not only did the trigger guard fall out but when I first pushed it up(hadn't discovered the problem at this point), I somehow managed to knock the spring that holds the slide stop on out of position and it fell out too >:(  After 15 minutes of looking on the floor, I found  the pin and managed to get the gun back together.  All I got to say is: %&&&%%$&*$%
Nuf said. Overall, it's a nice gun but I'm thinking a complete spring job wouldn't hurt and if I do that, I just might try my hand at refinishing it.

Field-strip it and give it a really good cleaning and light lube. They do seem to prefer higher-quality European ammunition - Sellier & Bellot, RWS/GECO, or Fiocchi. I steer clear of that Russian crap.

On the trigger guard pin, that's not unusual - especially if the trigger guard is down when you take the grips off. What I did with one of mine was to take the pin out and stick it about 1/16" into my vise and mash the end a little bit out of round. Put it back in round-end-first, of course.

The vz.82 is one of the finest and most accurate guns I've ever owned.  ;)

That pin falls out all the time on mine too.

Be careful when re-attaching the grips. If you do the screws up too tight you can cause problems with the magazine dropping out. Too loose and the grips can move in recoil and touch the slide lock, causing the slide lock back on each shot.

It can be tricky to troubleshoot that problem if you haven't had it before. Don't ask me how I know that- or how long it took me to figure it out

The slide stop spring is a real PITA the first time around. Next time you deal with that, try punching out the roll pin the the spring goes over. Trying to manipulate the spring with the pin in place tends to produce loud vulgar outbursts. ;)

Learning all kinds of new stuff.  Glad to hear the Trigger Guard Pin is a common problem, I thought it was me.
Thanks for the tip Knoxy, that's exactly what I did.
