canik 55/ tristar grip purchase
« on: June 29, 2014, 09:35:35 PM »
this is deff the place to express my thought and observation on this.. with the recent tristar p120 as an sp01 alternative i know a lot of people (like myself) are rushing to buy one?
i did and tuned her all up and have a really nice gun that resembles and sp01 shadow for a whole lot less!

only one problem and it comes in the caboose of the little lady? the tristar pistols do not have an extended beaver tail and have a COMPLETELY different feel to them, its actually quite uncomfortable
to be honest.

only reason for this post is I'm not hearing to much about this in the reviews i see and read and lets be real? the entire reason we love these guns is how they melt in your hands

just some food for thought

So, 10mmdude, is that a deal breaker for you?  Now that you've said this, it does give me pause.

Honestly... Yea for me it is...

It may not be the same for you and I would recommend find sling one before you buy..
Also put the two up on ur screen with two different tabs and go back and forth, them translate that image to the "V" of ur pointer and thumb finger ..

I believe in the future they will change this because it is a huge difference and just wanted to heed others before they over look this simple thing as I did

Not too many people like the stock grips on the Tristars/Caniks, myself included. If you want the feel of a stock CZ SP01, you can purchase the stock CZ rubber grips from the CZ Custom Shop on line for $27 + shipping. I replaced the grips on both of my Tristars and I am pleased with the results. I used Hogue grips on my T-120 and some wood grips from Ebay on my P-120. The grips gave these guns a completely different feel. The rubber Hogue grips are better than the stock Tristar grips, but I'm sure that the stock CZ rubber grips would feel even better.

First I've ever heard this complaint. Most everybody replaces the stock grips. They're a little thick and slick, but I've never thought of it as uncomfortable. I got some that are a little thinner and grippy as medium grip tape. https://coppergungrips.com/CZ_Grips.php

Guess it depends on the individuals hands. I find the beavertail isn't something that ever gave me cause to think about.

This is interesting - do you happen to have both a T/P-120 and an SP-01?  If you do, would you mind taking photos of them on top of each other, or back to back, or some way that they could easily be compared?  I've never had a chance to shoot an SP-01, so I wasn't aware of this beavertail difference when I owned my P-120.  I do know that I preferred how the Stingray-C fits into my hands vs. the P-120: I wonder if the compact Caniks are dimensionally closer beavertail-wise to CZ's vs their full-size brothers, and if this has something to do with my preference?

Little update, I put a pair of cz plastic grips on my p120 last night just for poopies and giggles and it feels much better than with the cz thin grips on it.. The palm swells divert my thumb a little lower, like most I like to get a real high purchase ya know
