CZ compact SDP or Protek II?
« on: October 30, 2012, 03:24:00 PM »
Having narrowed choices to a P-01, I wondered what folks see as the important differences between
the compact SDP and the Protek II.  Has anyone used the single-dot rear sight on the SDP?  The list
prices differ by $350.  What does SDP stand for?  Thanks for any help in deciding which to order.

SDP stands for Self Defense Pistol.  I have one of the Shadow 75 SDP's with the Heinie sight, and I like it very much.  Crisp sight picture, low snag design.

The main differences beyond the obvious between the two pistols is the amount of machine work and hand work involved in making the ProTek.  My Protek I amazes me every time I handle it, they leave no stone unturned in it's creation and *for me* it's worth the added expense.....I simply love the radiusing and smoothing they've done on the exterior surfaces.  I like the rear sight on the ProTek as well.

If I were to step down from the ProTek I would simply doll up a standard P-01 with Custom Shop or CGW parts, work on the action, and put on tritiums myself (like I've done to mine with the exception of the sights).

I would guess Self Defense Pistol, but honestly I don't know for sure.  I like how it comes with the original 85C trigger, and I've been thinking about installing one of those on my Pro-Tek just because I find them more comfortable.  The slide is cut a bit differently on the Pro-Tek.  Another difference would be the Pro-Tek comes dehorned/deburred, which just makes it very nice to handle.  All the surfaces/controls are grippy but smooth, just making it a great feeling gun overall.  Overall, I suspect the Pro-Tek is just a more polished product overall, and whether that's worth the extra $$$ is up to you.

That's very helpful.  Are they both based on the P-01 (perhaps by a different name)?  How
do the Protek I and II differ?  Sounds like I should just ask for a customized P-01.  Maybe
the Protek is too pretty for me?

Both the Compact SDP and the Pro Tek II are built off the P01 gun
The Pro Tek I is built off of the PCR ( 75 Compact D )

I have Compact SDP on the shelf ready for new homes. Others I am waiting for more stock to begin gun builds.

I know this is an old thread but trying to make it clear in my mind.  The Protek and sdp are the same gun only the Pretek has more work done to round out edges ect?

The SDP and the Protek II are the same base pistol, the P-01.  The physical trigger is different, the SDP has an original 85 Combat trigger, the Protek II has the black recurve trigger.  The sights are different, the SDP has heinie sights, and the Protek II has adjustable Novak sights.

There might be a few more small differences that I missed.
