Was at a local range today talking to the general manager and some members. I overheard a conversation about a guy talking about competition guns.
Now keep in mind that my Accu-shadow is set up for defensive purposes and not competition, but it still has origins in competition. That said, the guy was saying how one of the competition shooters there that was practicing had to have his 1911 serviced. He went on to say that 1911s are more range toys and not suited for competition shooting. So I looked up and asked what he thought about CZ guns and if he thought they were suited for competition. (I already know the answer from us CZ enthusiasts and BEnos forums enthusiasts that CZ is great and for comp). He looked at me and said he's never heard of CZ guns. So I figured maybe he heard about the venerable CZ 75 wonder nine. He didn't so I open my bag and pull out my custom shop Accu-shadow fitted with front/rear trits and ambi slide release. I eject the mag, show that it's clear, and lock the slide back. Then I hand the retired older gentleman the gun. I tell him to feel the trigger. He pulls it and looks impressed. Then I tell him to check the reset. He doesn't understand, so he pulls double action. So I tell him to keep the trigger pressed on the follow through and then rack the slide, to simulate reset. At this point he's even more impressed. He comments on the crispness and the lack of pre- and over- travel. He gives it a final look over and laughs exclaiming, "Czech Republic. No wonder. The US can't make any guns."
At this point the competition shooter steps outside of the shooting range to the lobby where we are all talking; this is the guy with the 1911. The retired older guy tells him to come here and check out my gun. He's a comp shooter where as the older retired guy was not. He already knows to check the trigger and the reset. He tests single and double and tells me it feels better than his 1911 and feels lighter. So he hands me his SVI 1911 after clearing it. I test the reset. I told him the poundage felt equal to mine. He says his is 2 pounds and that mine must be lighter than his. I tell him it's 3.5 pounds single and 8 pounds double. At this point he was shocked and said that my trigger feels lighter in single action and more crisp on the break. He said he liked it more than his 1911. Then we talk price after the old guy's wife asked (she is also a gun night because she asked to see my gun at some point in the earlier conversation and tested the trigger too). So I tell them base Accu-shadow is about 1700 bucks, but that mine is close to 2300 after front/rear trit sights and ambi slide release. At this point the comp shooter with the SVI was basically sold because he didn't know I had ambi slide release on mine. Turns out he was looking for a fully ambi platform so he can shoot left hand.
TL;DR: competition SVI 1911 shooter with 2 pound single action trigger liked my CZ Custom Accu-shadow trigger more. He thought my trigger felt lighter than his tuned 1911 and that my trigger felt more crisp.
