Shoulder holster question
« on: July 28, 2014, 01:54:50 AM »
I bought a shoulder holster for my 83 off of GunBroker, and while the gun does fit, it is a very tight fit.  What is the best way to stretch the strap without tearing it?  Would that glove-stretching stuff work?

Purely coincidence, but I found this article in my inbox today in one of the newsletters I receive:
How to Break In a New Leather Holster

The info is consistent with what I've read elsewhere, and done myself with some success.  Personally, I wouldn't add any products to the leather without trying something like this first.

I've heard of that technique; another option is to use a sock instead of a bag.  While what that piece suggests will work for the body of the holster, it won't stretch the strap.  Thank, though.

I don't see why it would not stretch if you wrap your whole gun. If its just the strap that's to tight, just try a piece of fabric where the strap touches the hammer, that's assuming you can snap it at all (you didn't specify). If you also stretch the holster a little with that method (bagging), the gun should sit a little deeper in the holster, thus possibly allowing the strap the stretch enough. Sounds good in my head at least. Good luck.

Sorry, you are correct that I can't snap the strap with the gun in.  I see your point about stretching the body, though.  I suppose if that doesn't work, I could just tape it down, and stretch it little-by-little until it does.
