My VZ58 finished and ready for range testing.
« on: October 17, 2014, 07:41:11 PM »
I choose to take off the scout scope I had originally mounted and replaced it with a Vortex Strike Fire 2 red dot.  After playing a few dry fire scenarios out I soon realized that without co-witness ability the scout scope was going to be a problem under about 50 yrds even at the 2x setting.  The strike Fire seems to be the ticket for me.  True co-witness ability along with the red dot out to say 100 plus yards.  I went with the Vortex product after seeing several reviews, their warranty, and general quality vs price point as I saw it.   Finished VZ58 below.  Will be going to range next week or this Saturday if all works out.

Looks good! Couple question:

You can cowitness with irons?  Or are you just able to use irons by looking through that scope mount, beneath the scope?

Take it you need/use the cheek riser on that Mako stock for your red dot?

The mounts design allows shooter to use iron sights fully.  No you do not sight through the tube but the mount is open between 2 risers so to speak and leaves a clear field of view of the iron sights.  The cheek riser for me one step up is comfortable for the red dot and usable for the irons.

Just a quick list of the upgrades,  Mako folding stock with cheek riser, NEA upper and lower hand guards, 4 and 2 inch rail sections on lower hand guard, PKT fore grip, 1 inch Tactical Flash light holder, Vortex Strike Fire 2 red dot,  Mako pistol grip.

Looks great! I just bought the Vortex Sparc 2. I'm waiting on my rifle to get back from Czechpoint with the side mount installed. I'm going with the LPM optic mount. Vortex seems to be a good option. Reviews on the Strike Fire 2 and Sparc were great. I like that you can use the irons at close range with that set up.
Let us know how it works at the range.

Going to the range today with wife to get her some time on her SR22 pistol and to sight in the VZ58.  I will be using Wolf Classic gold box HP ammo.  I also have some 154grn Wolf Soft point but leaving it home I think.  Also need time on my Para LDA 40 cal so will be a fun outing.  Will let all know how the VZ does.
