I went to a gun show today. I had been thinking of getting a SIG 226 but went to the gun range today. My boss is from California and has never owned a gun and bought a shotgun recently and wanted to shoot clays and let me teach him how. Anyway, he wanted me to bring along a pistol to see if he wanted to buy one soon or down the road...so I brought my P-01 since I shoot it better than anything and apparently him too. He was blowing out the bullseye before he used up one magazine with it and with my mediocre pointers. THe point to this was that I pushed out of my mind any thought of the SIG (not that it is a bad gun I will probably get one down the road) and moved the SP-01 purchase to the head of the class.
So, after shooting I go to the gun show and look for SP-01s. There were a few but I wanted to get a SP-01 Tactical so I would not have to mess around with getting the night sights installed later and I prefer the decocker. They were all reasonably priced between $467-$478. One table had a SP-01 Tactical but sold it with the tactical block/bayonet. I would prefer the night sight and decocker set up but does the tactical also come only with the bayonet block? That tactical was priced at $587 and was the only one at the whole show, the rest just had traditional safeties. I would be happy with a SP-01 w/out a decocker if it meant I had to shell out $100 extra to get it and a piece of Rambo gear that I will never use. But also, the night sights alone are worth that including install. Any thoughts? Can you get the Tactical w/out the bayonet block or will I have to buy the package to get the Tactical pistol? Should I not worry to much and just buy the SP-01 w/ a safety?
As a side note, when I was at the range there were two guys on either side of me who had new S&W M&Ps. One guy had a 9mm and the other a .40. The guy with the 9mm was not serious, just trying to get the feel of his gun, the guy with the .40 had been there for over an hour shooting trying to sight it in using rests and stuff as well as taking his time; it took him minutes to go through one magazine. He offered to let me shoot his in exchange for shooting my P-01. His M&P felt good in the hand but the sights were all over the place and I could group okay but always shot low and left and pulled a shot every 3 or 4 rounds. The guy who shot my CZ, who had yet to get his M&P into the 10 ring which he had covered with one of those Shoot-N-C targets (the black ones with the neon green backing that made your holes more pronounced) had blown out his bullseye with the CZ in one magazine. I wish I was that good with a pistol but I think there is at least one more "convert" out there after today since he was asking about price, reliability, availability of accessories, etc. after he shot it.
