Got a Nice Suprise today!
« on: September 25, 2014, 07:56:30 PM »
So I open my email this morning and see a GunBroker email that says

"You won an item on GunBroker"

I was like WHAT!!! Then I looked and it was a bid I put in over 2 weeks ago for a .38 S&W Model 10 with 4"Barrel. I was like NICE!
Now I don't expect much for a $350 so it looks like it will be my next project.
This will go well with my 686-6!

Good question. It did not state if it was or not.
Is there a way to tell once I get it?

You can contact Smith and Wesson directly to see if it was originally sold to a PD. I think the search costs a few dollars, not sure.

I had purchased one from Buds a few years ago, but it was advertised as one. Just showed holster wear. It is one mechanically sound gun.

I would say this looks like holster wear from the photos
Front of thr barrel has wear and chamber has wear. I would say maybe 25% blue is off.
We will see!

The S&W Certificate of Authenticity (Factory Letter) is now $50 and the last one I got took 70 days! No hurrying Ole Roy!!

Congrats!  You made a good purchase if everything is tight and the timing is good, which is usually the case with these revolvers.  It's a plus if it's showing wear and no one has tried to refinish it, as some out there don't know what they're doing when they refinish a revolver.

I have tried to see if your revolver has a screw at the top of the side plate on the right side. It appears to be there but I cannot be sure. If the screw is there the gun predates 1955, the year S&W engineered that screw out of the gun. If in fact the screw is there then the gun is properly classified as a "Pre 10". The Model 10 designation was applied in 1957. The first few numbers of the serial number, including the preceding letter, would be very helpful in dating your revolver.

Thanks Joe but no screw.
I think it is 1966-67 with the C823xxx serial number.
