cz75bd barrel curiousity
« on: December 03, 2014, 04:18:48 PM »
I found this site today and figured I'd ask you guys.

I purchased my first NIB CZ yesterday (cz75bd police).  In the process of cleaning it, the barrel seemed rather light.  After comparing
the barrels from Glocks, M&P, Sigs, Colts, etc.. it seemed different.

My questions are.. what type of metal is the barrel made of?  Is the hammer and trigger made of the same type?

Dear Sidvic, welcome to the forum.

CZ75 barrels are made of hi quality steel.
the thickness of the barrel is designed to last several thousands rounds.

Other manufacturers use heavier barrels to offset lighter sliders.
Also the geometry of locking system has a role in the choice of a lighter barrel for CZ.

it's a matter of weight and geometry, not of strength: CZ barrels last forever, as Glock or Beretta ones do.

Ciao

Hello sidvic,  and welcome to the forum from South Texas.

The bbl on your 75BD is extremely durable and made of VERY hard steel.  My 75B had over 60,00 rounds through it and was as accurate as ever.  Those who have have made modifications to the hammer and barrel (sometimes the bbl "peanut hole" is modified to fit other CZ models of pistol  will testify it is a painstaking job to remove/drill those surfaces and require special tools/ drill bits.  The hammerhooks are sometimes modified to improve the break.

Shoot it all you can without worry about durability of the metal.

You can search here about small parts that may eventually fail/break and those where high volume shooters keep  back-up spares on hand.   These are usually competition shooters.

Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks Fgcm and 1SOW for the welcome / feedback.   It feels really stout, so the light barrel had me curious.

Hopefully tomorrow I can put a box of WWB through it.

Welcome! I don't have nearly as many rounds through mine as 1SOW does, but I have about 10k and it's still just as accurate as when it was new, if not more accurate.

Shoot the heck outta it ;) ;)
