do I really need an SP01?
« on: January 17, 2006, 06:32:31 PM »

I've got a 75SA that looks, feels and shoots great for me.

This SP01 looks pretty neat too, but I was wondering, would the SP01 be a significantly different experience in handling and shooting from my SA?    From the specs on the two pistols there doesn't seem to be a a great  difference;  I don't particularly need a tac rail either.    Local shops don't have an SP for me to try out.

I don't want to spend money and have two very similar pistols in 9mm, I'd rather look at something completely different in the CZ line.  I'd appreciate your opinions.

thanks!

I had an SA and made the switch to an SP01.  The two main reasons for me included the ability to mount a light and the opinion that the smooth front and backstrap of the SA needed a more positive grip surface.

The SP-01 solves both these problems, plus adds more weight up front for reduced muzzle flip.  It also has a larger outside diameter barrel than the SA, kinda like a bull barrel.  I also found the slide to frame fit was tighter on my SP01 than my SA, probably due to more surface area.  I believe these features add speed and accuracy.

But to your point it is not so different of a pistol that you could justify needing both.  I actually ended up selling my SA.  Think of the SP01 as an "improved" SA and if you think you need an improvement, then te=he SP01 fits the bill.

thanks gunfighter

This was just the type of info I was looking for.  I'll keep my SA.   For my purposes' (range only) the improvements you mention for the SP vs SA would be of marginal value.

I most likely will start to look at the Tac Sport as I think you'd agree,  in a 9mm platform it offers significant differences from the SA in specs, handling  aesthetics, and performance.

Amen to that, nobody will argue the TS and SA are similar pistols.

From what I've seen and read, the TS looks like a pleasure to own and shoot.

Lucky dog!
