New to the VZ2008
« on: February 12, 2015, 06:29:11 PM »
Hey guy, just recently got my VZ2008 from PSA and this is where I will post all the pictures on what I am doing to it. I received both the heat shield from the eBay guy as well as tru-oil. I was afraid of ruining the furniture so I took the grip off and sanded that and aplied some tru-oil..so far, I love it!

In various searches I  find precious little about proven ways to restore/rejuvenate the barf.
Anybody have a definitive link or solution?

This guy used Tru-oil followed by a gloss polyurethane .
He shows before and after.

Since I'm a hobbyist woodworker I have a true tung-oil that I may try first unless better ideas are provided.

very nice

I ordered some 40 year old surplus beechwood furniture from Czechoslovakia for one of my OOW VZ sawfity ates.

Czechpoint posted the following in regards to finishing and I would like to have your expert wood working opinion on this process:

Quote
"The beech wood furniture on this rifle has been lightly sanded and received a coat of brown stain and then three coats of boiled linseed oil (BLO) and three coats of 'Tom's 1/3 Mix Military Gunstock Wax. Stain was used to assist in matching the beech wood stock parts as the original wood exhibited slightly different colors. The result of the staining yielded a reddish color making for an awesome looking stock set!  "

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.
