Dawson v CGW Fiber Optic Sights for P-09

Hi -- can anyone here clarify the differences between the Dawson competition sight set (fiber optic front) and the competition sight set sold by CGW (which I also understand is made by Dawson)? 

The specs indicate different height and possible notch width.  I think I'd prefer the taller version on CGW's site, but to order it on Dawson's site as their prices are a little better and come with free shipping.  I'm not finding an equivalent match up on the Dawson site to the specs listed on CGW's site, so I'm wondering if Dawson makes a set of sights special for CGW that they don't stock otherwise.  The set I am finding together on Dawson's sight looks closer to the CGW low profile sets, but still not an exact match.

Also, does anyone know the notch width of the CGW set rear sight and whether it has the same profile as the Dawson rear sight?  Thanks in advance!

I think so, but you can allways call and ask.

If you buy the set from Dawson and they are not shooting POA/POI, they will send out a different front to correct the error. You just need to provide the amount of error and at what yardage.

I ran into a problem with the cgw taller front sight dragging the inside of some holsters. It is rather thin as well. I prefer a thicker front sight with larger fiber optic for a bigger, brighter dot.

I think Dawson is making these custom to CGW's specs.  I emailed them asking if they carried a set that matched what CGW sells and got a reply advising that I could custom order any size combination for an extra $10. 

joedirt199, based on your experience, I'm thinking I'll just go with the set Dawson carries normally.

Has anyone put the dawson set on an 07? Took mine out today and at 25 yards with factory sights was hitting high with a 6 oclock hold. Hoping the dawsons remedy the issue.

I have the Dawson sets on both 07 & 09. If you buy the SET, Dave will make sure that POA=POI. If not he will replace the front to correct the error if you tell him yardage, amount off, and sight radius. The Dawson front is made to get the most out of the F/O rod.

Posts by "whitecap" for this subject caught my eye and the overall subject about sights is good.  I understand POA=POI meaning and front sight is important when using opens sights.  I did initial P-09 "test" yesterday with factory WWB FMJ 115's.  I need to see what the P-09 does (so to speak) at 25 and 50 yards. I am glad to see these sight topics--not ready to change sights but I have upgraded/changed S&W adjustable sights.  I use red dots on my competition toys such as used for Sportsman Team Challenge.  I like the P-09 so much that I will want to look for holster --maybe a "secure" or lock type holster (as I use use Blackhawk holster for a S&W MP 40).

DG: when using the red dot, do the fixed sights co-witness or are they removed altogether? Over!!

First regarding P-09, I just initially fired that one yesterday.  I have red dots on a custom heavy barrel (fire lead (Pb) only) in .38 SPL.  There are no iron sights.  My other two red dots are on Ruger .22's.  All my RD's are not like current production.  I own no co-witness setups as I slide in what might answer the question to me. I used Red Dots for Team Challenge about years in 2000-2002 range.

I bought the DAWSON front & rear for my P-09

perfect zero

I mic'd out the height, and it was the same as my P-07

so I ordered a front only for the P-07

perfect zero also.

I have DAWSON on a lot of my guns.

For derek45,  Regarding the picture only (not your text), Dawson products were mentioned and I see the FO (fiber optic) front sight.  Was the rear sight changed on the P-09 40 as pictured?  I am familiar with a P-09 9mm with stock sights.  IF I ever order parts for FO front (or both), I don't want sight width or height to change the current stock if being what looks like POA=POI.  I have only fired at close range (40 rounds) on initial range test with a good surprise (no failures and good groups).

when it arrvied,  I measured the height.

it was the same as the factory CZ sight.

...so, when I went to place an order for my P-07, I just ordered the front sight only ( same height as factory )

both guns shoot right on target with my (9mm) 124 and (40) 180 handloads.





It's difficult to try to take sight pics with an iphone, but the fiber is very nice and bright.
