I have the Holosun on my VZ, but mine is co witness.

This is from my AR setup, and needed to be elevated to co-witness with my flip-up sights. I actually like the idea of having it low on the VZ rail just to keep it from sticking up so far. I'll be getting another Holosun for the VZ so I don't have to resight them. I checked it with a SightMark laser bore sighter and it was surprisingly close to my AR setup.

But nonexistent cheek weld?  Or do you have a one of those fab stocks w/ an adjustable cheek riser?

I don't see an advantage to this over a cowitness -- which you'd have w/ the holosun w/o the riser...

I don't know yet. I'm waiting on a nut to show up from Stormwerkz for their adapter. The stock is the ACE lightweight. The adapter is the straight variant, which will raise the check weld some, but probably not enough. Time will tell. I see the advantage as a lens failure, like a shatter. Then again, I've never seen one actually shatter... I was thinking about heat, too, but I'm not seeing much on failure from heat, but have seen where the NEA gets hot, and where the NEA doesn't get hot. Isn't that what you have? Does it get hot?

NEA handguards are vented pretty well, so they don't get as hot as beaverbarf.  I also mount my primary arms red dot all the way to the rear of the upper hg -- don't see any advantage of mounting it further forward -- doing so just reduces the field of view and makes it point slower for me...  Haven't had any issues w/ the red dot due to heat.

Everything works great with the 2 MOA red dot Holosun. It's setup to co-witness, but only in trying to see how it works that way (as opposed to the elevated see-thru mount). The only reason I went with the lower mount, that also co-witnesses, is just for the looks. I think it's more efficient when elevated and your iron sights are aligned underneath, but the elevated mount sort of hangs out there in space, if you know what I mean. The lower mount is not likely to get as abused when running down elephants and tossing your VZ on their back as you jump a ride, or slamming alligator skulls as you're swimming across the Nile, or even bolas'ing your VZ when you're out of ammo and you need to trip up some charging bears or Zombies. However, I'm now researching magnified scout scopes that are illuminated to make them effective pointers in the dark. Kinda like a dot dot, but with eye relief.

Vortex offers a screw on 2x magnifier w/ their red dots...

Also, not sure how you're liking your cheek weld, etc, right now, but raising your stock up slightly to inline w/ the barrel will reduce felt recoil as will getting rid of that AK slant that causes the VZ to twist laterally when shooting (AK slants made to compensate for off-balanced AK bolt carriers).
