How many of you use a Shoulder Holster for EDC ?
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:35:42 PM »
I hope this doesn't open a can of worms . I'm not looking to start a debate about shoulder holsters being a bad idea .  The question is how many of you use a shoulder holster for EDC ?  If you do use a shoulder holster , what firearm do you carry , and what rig do you carry it in ?

I'm older , and I have some physical problems that make IWB , and OWB carry uncomfortable for me .
I carry a full size handgun , so I am looking into getting a shoulder rig .

Hey TC,
shoulder holsters are not very popular with, well, most crowds.  I?ve tried most of the major brands, and a few custom rigs like Andrews (which is ?very? nice).  The one I am most fond of is Galco?s Jackass, and it?s just pretty affordable.  As for what gun, its usually been a 1911 Government down the years.  I find it very comfortable and very conceable, even with just a light shirt.  It is not the fastest (or safest) draw, and I would recommend something else for most people.  There are good reasons for their un-popularity.  But you can do a lot worse that starting with a Jackass, and they don?t break the bank.
  Best of luck with it!

I used one for years while hiking with a fanny pack and gear on my belt. Didn't have room for a holster and distributed the weight off my hips. It was Galco rig (I think) with a SW 6906 and 2 mags on the opposite side to balance it out. Still have it since the PCR and mags fit like a glove, but don't hike much anymore.

I used one daily in the service.  It was the most comfortable way to drive with a sidearm.  I might occasionally carry a shoulder holster when hunting.  It keeps the butt of a pistol away from your rifle stock and fits comfortably under a vest.
One issue with cc is the need for a cover garment that you can easily get inside.

Rarely did I ever use a shoulder rig, only have one no-name horizontal rig left, for my Smith Model 10, and the snap needs replacing.

The one I did use was a Jackass Leather, the one that would find fame later as the Galco Miami Classic, and it was very comfortable  even with a full size EAA Witness 40 and two spare mags. That was back when they came sized for "Large Auto" and such. Sold it for a song, wish I hadn't.
