PCR feed issues
« on: August 08, 2015, 08:28:38 PM »
I shoot my PCR in USPSA production class.I ve been having issues with the pistol feeding ammo.Has anyone noticed that the PCR is finicky to oal of the ammo? I recently changed my ammo from Blazer 124 GR @ 1.145 oal  to American Eagle 147 gr @ 1.045 OAL. Seems to me that the pistol just doesnt like the shorter OAL?  I was hoping the AE 147 would help tame down the muzzle flip, but if it wont feed, why bother. Any suggestion

My Shadows would jam on Remington UMC, which also has a short oal of about 1.09.  But my reloads at 1.130 never had an issue.

Ive shot nothing but CCI  115's  in brass or metal case outta my PCR.  Never had a failure of any kind yet. But I don't shoot comp either.

I'll ask something that may sound dumb, but thanks to our  jamomatic M16' A1's In  the Army back in the day, I have done automatically with any magazine since then. I never give it much thought anymore. Are you making sure the rounds in the mag are all setting to the rear in the clip?  I bang the back of my mags on my boot heel or a piece of wood after loading / or / before inserting into the weapon.  Sometimes while loading mags,  rounds will walk towards the front on the mag causing the bullet to rub on the inside of the mag. That does cause failure to feed.

I was going to just PM you  since this may be basic simple stuff to you, and I didnt want to offend. But Im sure there are some  new shooters out there that just don't know this .

Disassemble and pull the barrel, drop a round in to make sure it plops and you can spin it.  Different profiles for round nose or flat point or some longer round nose 147gr, etc etc, just too much variability in our options for plinking ammo!  Sounds like you were getting issues mainly with shorter OAL rounds, so maybe chambering isn't an issue.

If you only get failures to feed and once they're chambered there's no issues, it's either the magazine feed lips or mag springs need tuning/replaced (or maybe just brush out the mag for cleaning?).  Last idea to inspect would be the recoil spring may not be pushing the slide back into battery as hard (usually north of 5K rounds for a recoil spring to start wearing out).

The factory test them with 115gr S&B.  I have fired several different brands including reloads with both FMJ and JHP.  Some of the reloads were over 30 years old with no problems.
