TS rear sight swap
« on: November 01, 2015, 04:56:49 PM »
Is there some trick to swapping the rear on the TS?

Attempting to install an adjustable rear for a buddy and it's like putting my pusher up against a brick wall.

It's no fancy, high dollar pusher, but it's done 3-4 CZ's for me in the past.

Is it just that darn tight or am I missing something?

Figured I'd ask before I bugger up his $1200 range toy. ;-)

Some sights require fitting for some dovetails. I have had to sand down the base of the dovetail on a few rear sights to get them to fit. I sand the base until the sight will install about half way by hand then tap it in the rest of the way or use a sight pusher.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Ya. I'm quite familiar with the process. I see where I was unclear in my original post. Let me clarify

I can't get the original out, I'm not worried about fitting the new one.

I put more torque on the pusher than I have with any other removal, so I wanted to ask before really getting down on it.

Ahh i see.

This has come up allot lately. The stock TS rear can be tough to remove.

The most effective options i have seen are using some penetrating oil, soaking the rear of the slide in penetrating oil or heating up the slide with a torch. I have read that CZ may use red locktight under the TS rear sight.

I have read that in the worst cases the rear sight had to be milled out destroying the sight in the process.

Soaking now. We'll see what happens.

Will try heat if that doesn't work.

And if heat doesn't work, he'll just have to pay someone to do it!  :P

Good deal. CGW may be an option if you cannot get it out. Shipping a slide is cheep and David is the guy who mentioned having to cut some of the tougher sights out so he has done it before.

Let us know how it goes.

Depending on the sight pusher design,  "sometimes" torquing a strong push with the pusher bolt and then tapping that bolt with a mallet will break a stubborn sight loose enough to push the rest of the way out..  .

My pusher is home made, and this has worked on mine with a tight sight.  May not with the TS,  but After you soak it in Penetrating oil,  this might be worth a try.

I think I'm gonna leave this one to the professionals.

I could deal with putting a ding on a $500 CZ, but I'd rather not do it on a $1200 one.

Quick way to turn a friend in to an enemy!
