Shooting with bags
« on: October 07, 2015, 10:33:46 PM »
I have a question about shooting from bags with a floating barrel such as the 455 evolution. Will resting the barrel on the front bag have any affect on accuracy or not? I got to thinking about this a couple of days ago while sighting in my scope. I'm thinking along the lines of barrel tuners and their affect on the harmonics on barrels. Should the rear and front bag both be placed under the stock and not the barrel?  I'm probably overthinking this, but I felt like I had to ask the question. Anybody have any ideas?  Thanks!!

I think the bags should definitely be under the stock and not touch the barrel for the exact reason you mention. Depending on how much pressure you allply to the rifle when shooting you might even affect POI.

My 452 seems to like the front bag as close to the magazine as possible.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

Thank you painter. I've changing to some lower scope rings on my 455 this weekend which means I will be re-zeroing from scratch again. I'm going to experiment with bag position forward and rearward while keeping it on the wood. Though the evolution shot well, groups were a bit looser than I thought they should be.
