Hammer hangs up when manually decocking..
« on: August 23, 2015, 07:36:26 AM »
I installed an adjustable sear in my Shadow that I just converted to single action. Everything works perfectly fine and fires 100% of the time but one weird thing happens - when the hammer is cocked, I pull the hammer back that little bit more and pull the trigger but hold the hammer to manually decock it slowly it looks like the hooks get caught in the edge of the sear.

Is this normal? When not manually decocking the hammer falls just fine and with enough force to not hang up. This only happens when I purposely let the hammer down slowly. I am using a CZ Custom hammer with CGW adjustable sear.

I've also tried to adjust the sear to have the safety work as designed. I was under the impression I could have the safety up while half cocked AND fully cocked and not be able to pull the trigger. Instead even after adjusting it, it'll only work properly while fully cocked.

Take the slide off and observe both scenarios - you may see and hear the sear being touched by the hammer some times.

The overtravel might need to be backed off a bit.  For easy test, see if you can simply unscrew the overtravel and repeat the test with the slide off for visual.

P01man,

Is correct, the sears lift is being limited by the SA over-travel screw in the trigger.  The CGW sear has the same external dimensions as the OEM sear.

Perfect, thanks guys! I had the overtravel screw set just enough to drop the hammer so I backed it off about 1/2 - 3/4 turn and it doesn't hang up at all. Thanks!

About the safety in conjunction with adjustable sear, should I be able to pull the trigger at half cock with the safety up?
