SP01 Base Plate IDPA
« on: July 20, 2015, 03:09:21 AM »
I am purchasing a CZ SP-01 Shadow Custom next week and need some advice as to what baseplate/magazine combination  everyone uses for IDPA. I would like to know which ones will fit in the box and be SSP legal while making weight. Thanks!

Mecgar 17 round mags with the blue followers are what I use for IDPA and USPSA (albeit downloaded to 10 rnds). Stock springs/followers/base pads have been working just fine for me.  Springer and Shockbottle make aluminum base pads if you want a little more bling or weight.

I use the two SP-01 magazines that come with the gun just like they are and they have worked great.

Then I have three or four of the Mec-Gar 17 rounders and I swapped out the metal base plates for Beretta 92 plastic ones. I shoot some indoor IDPA and I hate the sound of a metal magazine hitting concrete and the plastic pad seems to help.

SP-01 with Beretta 92 base plates on a Mec-Gar magazine.

Hello.  Where'd you get that safety?  I'm dying for something on the game guns...

As I thought.  They're out of stock for both the sp-01 and the TS.

Thanks though.

Mec-Gar mags with Springer Precision base pads are the way to go.

Would the custom part of SP-01 shadow custom technically make it illegal for IDPA. Especially ssp (stock service pistol)

"IDPA equipment rules permit practically any box-stock factory gun that meets the description above to be used.  In addition, usual and customary sight and grip changes and trigger pull improvements are allowed in all IDPA equipment divisions -- Sights must be "notch and post," grips must be non-weighted, and trigger pull must be safe for action shooting.  Weighted guide rods (those containing material other than common steel) and other accessories intended to increase the weight of the gun are not allowed.  In short, only when the gun is or could be described as a "custom gun" do you need to be concerned with it being excluded from IDPA: Almost all guns suitable for real-world defensive and practical concealed-carry use are allowed in one or more IDPA divisions."

It depends on what you have done. Relacement sights are OK as long as you use the stock dovetails.  Milling the slide to accept a different type of sight (i.e. Shadow Target that uses the LPA cut) is not allowed.  The hammer CZC uses is stock on the Shadows, so that's good to go, as is any trigger work to improve the DA/SA pull.  Having CZC install an accu-bushing is not allowed for SSP.

But your basic 91030 model ought to be good to go for IDPA.  At least at this point in time.  IDPA has had a tendency to change rules or provide "clarification" after the fact.

I run pro-mag 15 rounders with the plastic base plates. I got a bunch of them online for $12 each, so I don't mind beating them up/dropping them on the ground every stage. I'd never drop the SP-01 mags that came with the gun on the ground if I can help it. They're too expensive for that.
