SP-01 Shadow vs CGW SP-01
« on: October 28, 2015, 06:11:04 PM »
Looking to purchase one of the two. SP-01 Shadow from CZ Custom. Standard factory model no custom work done. Or CGW SP-01 with pro package? Both are pretty priced pretty equal. One is available now the other 7 week build time? Is it worth the wait for CGW? Looking for target gun and use in IDPA ECT.... I've read lots of good on both and I know many threads are out there, but now that I'm actually ready to buy I would love fresh feedback.

Thanks

I would say that it depends on how much you like to tinker. If you dislike or have no intentions of getting into the guts of your gun and tweeking and polishing then get the CGW one you mentioned since all of that will have been done already. If however you are like me, get the SP-01 Shadow from CZC (which already is a very good gun ) and the CGW spring kit and trigger pin. You will also need there starter punch. Then spend a nice lazy day disassembling, cleaning and polishing then reassembling. There is a very good thread on this with good photos that is very helpful. You may not save a ton of money this way but in the end you will be intimately  familiar with your handgun and proud of what you have done  ;D

Went ahead and bought the Shadow.
I agree with wanting to learn my weapon and do work myself.
I'm new to CZ so definitely can't hurt to know every part.

Thanks for your reply

You could always purchase a stock gun from CGW as well as the parts to tinker with.
Pretty much a CZ fanboy.

I went with CGW, you can send one in to trick it out, buy one of theirs already tricked out, or order the parts and trick out your own DIY. Mine breaks at 7.5lbs for double action and 2lbs 15 ounces for single action. I'm sure I could get it lighter on the pull but it is great for me. I know the shadow is a fine weapon but when you can save $200-$300 or more by going with CGW SP-01 without noticeable differences between the two, why not do so and just get more ammo. I have between $750-$800 into my CZ-75 B (cost of the gun and all upgrade parts and it shoots dead nuts every time if I do my part. I say go with CGW but the choice is yours

The non FPB will have a better trigger but unless you own both you wouldn't turn your nose up at the SP01 trigger.  If you want the "cheap" way out, an 85 combat is it, but even still most shadow owners end up with the comp hammer at a minimum. Plus a third mag starting with the gun is nice.
