Light mount for CZ75B?
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:39:22 PM »
I've got a couple of CZ75Bs and would like to mount lights on them.  I know the SP-01 has a rail, and I'd love to replace both my Bs with, say, Phantoms, but I'm hoping to keep the costs down.

Are there any good solutions for mounting a light or a rail on a standard CZ75B/

Someone makes a ad on rail for 1911's that you drill and tap the frame for on the dust cover, it may work on the CZ as well. Looking at the two guns the dust cover on a Commander is about the same length as a 75B's. Good luck

I think Dawson makes the rail for the 1911 and BHP.

I've got a cz-75 b in .40 and i have been able to get the surefire rail (http://www.surefire.com/MR11-Mounting-Rail) for the Beretta 92 to work.  Fair warning, it's a tight fit and leaves a little scratch on the inside of the trigger guard.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I bought a used Surefire MR-11 adapter and am waiting for it to arrive.

I compared the flat dustcover length ahead of the trigger guard on a 75B and 1911, and the 1911 is a good bit longer - about 1.6" for the 1911, vs 1.2" on my 75B - so a 1911 drill and tap rail probably wouldn't fit without a bit of shortening.

I'll look at some other rail mounts, and will post an update on the MR-11 when it arrives.

Well, it's almost good.

My only pistol light is an older Streamlight XML incandescant light for subcompacts, and it was very loose on the rail.  I'll be picking up a TLR-1 to try it with something more modern.

The mount fits over the trigger guard, and has a plastic wedge that tightens into the space between the mount and trigger guard with a setscrew.  It works well, and holds the light firmly without scratching or scuffing.

I installed it on a Beretta 92F Compact, and it fit perfectly.  Comparing the 92F and the CZ75B, they're are similar in the trigger guard and dust cover area, but there are some small differences.

The 92F trigger guard is flat on the inside, and the 75B is rounded.  The light adapter still grips securely, but it's a tighter fit, and the MR-11 won't go on without some minor mods.  There's a little curved plastic wedge that tightens the adapter to the trigger guard, and a few minutes with a Dremel and a barrel sander bit took enough off to let it fit.

The 92F frame's dust cover is longer, but that doesn't really matter a lot, except that the plastic pad to prevent scratching is out beyond the 75B's dust cover.

The big problem is that the fit is off just enough that the light rail angles down slightly, which drops the light spot enough that the barrel obscures a good bit of it.  This will depend on the light, of course - a larger spot will be more visible, and the XML doesn't have a very large or bright spot.

Next option is to take off some metal from the mount so it fits up under the 75B better.  It was quick and easy to modify the plastic wedge, and I'm sure I could get a replacement from Surefire to return it to its original configuration.  Taking metal off the mount will be more work, but if it looks like it'll be effective, I'll give it a try.  I can probably leave room for a plastic pad in there to protect the finish.

I also haven't shot with it on yet - that'll wait until I get the light.

More updates as I get time to mess with it...
