Have an 82, any reason to get an 83?
« on: December 09, 2015, 12:05:19 PM »
Hi all,

I picked up an 82 a couple of weeks ago, have not had a chance to fire it  >:(

Aside from the "one of anything is one too few" theory, is there a reason I should add an 83? From what I can tell, the only difference between the two models is the barrel and caliber offerings.

Mine is an 84 vintage in Mak caliber 9x18.

Thx!

Sure!

A CZ83 gives you a second caliber, and other than the barrel/chamber the parts are interchangeable.  That way you will have a spare pistol, no matter which one you end up shooting the most.

Not many CZ82s for sale these days, but I am seeing lots of CZ83s available at decent prices.

I have both. I bought the 83 first because I found it new for a killer price. The 83 is the smoothest shooting blow back 380 I've ever fired. I tribute this to the steel frame. I like Beretta 84's but I've found them to be a bit stout on the recoil which I believe is due to the alloy frame. Mine was manufactured toward the end of the run and the blue finish is beautiful. I didn't care for the squared trigger guard and another member here traded me for a round one. Wood grips completed it.  Later I picked up a very nice 82 from AIM because I'm pretty invested in the 9mm Mak round and the paint finish is more durable for CCW. The 82, with the more powerful round, reminds me of the Beretta 84, a tad jumpy. Love them both and I'd recommend getting the 83 in 380 for the mild recoil. A cool thing about 380 CZ 83's is the different names marked for the 380ACP. Mine is marked 9mm Cort, earlier ones were 9mm Browning.

I just ran across an 82 at my LGS and aside from the utilitarian finish I liked it so much I bought it without knowing a thing about them. Turned out to be a winner and is easy to shoot fist sized clusters at the 30 yards I randomly set my target at after pacing it off on the way back to the truck. Shooting Silver Bear FMJ's that I bought a case of and rested over the hood of my truck just to see what it could do. If an 83 shoots this nice, count me in along with some Lehigh Defense ammo!

You really need to build out the complete set to include the CZ 83 in .380 ACP, .32 ACP, and apparently 9mm Mak.  I'm still looking for my vz 82 and CZ 83 in 9mm Mak.

You realize of course that to complete your 8 series collection you'll have to get an 85.  ;)

Threadjack- are the new 2015s blued or polycoat?

If poly, might be reason to get 83s in a blued rounded trigger guard, a squared blued trigger guard, then another pair in nickel, topped off by a new polycoat!

Does that help? (Ducking for cover)

My 83, a 15 model, is polycoated.
