Look what CGW sent me!
« on: January 13, 2016, 10:18:17 PM »
CGW did the bushing conversion I have been lusting over.

Target crowned the barrel, and it looks like they nitrided or blued the barrel as well.  What a beautiful job!  I put some of my lead reloads through it and I may try some JHP to see if I can squeeze out it's full potential.

Oh, my, that's pretty.  Just don't loose your bushing wrench and keep that bushing and barrel wet.  I shot mine today, averaged 93 for a 600 point practice bullseye match and I hadn't shot the gun in over a month.  We aren't giving up anything to a custom 1911 in my opinion.

Had mine done that way as well. Looks great and shoots even better. Enjoy!

Is yours really that snug?  I don't need the wrench, it just moves with finger force, and no, I don't have kung fu grip.  It is snug, but takes down quite easily without the wrench.  I suppose every one is a bit different as far as snugness goes.

razir66--yes, my CGW "E" conversion is snug.  The original 97B screw-in bushing is not tight at all.

Mine is also the E conversion, that is why I was curious.

After about 300 rounds the bushing has loosened up a bit to where I don't need the wrench.  Just turn 45 degrees and pull out.

I love that David recrowns the barrels and blues them.  Nice extra touches!

Let me clarify a little.  Out of habit, I use a polymer bushing wrench to turn the bushing then use the edge of the polymer wrench to tap the flange to move the bushing a 1/4" or so so that I can grab it with my fingers and pull it out.  Mine is probably the same fit as everyone else's, I'm just old and weak!  Probably helps to remove the spring and drop the barrel out of battery slightly too, which I don't always do.
