Back in the fold again, for good
« on: January 04, 2016, 05:57:53 PM »
Well once again I have drank the Kool aid and it is good. Like a moron I sold my previous piece of heaven while in the midst of a full fledged fit of brokeness, imagine letting bills take precedence over my happiness,I regretted it immediately. So through a series of deals, and me taking full advantage of my wife wanting a peice (I mean she can't get something and not me after all) I managed to bring home two play purties. Well hers is tiffany blue and as yet the jury is still out as to whether it will amount to anything, mine however is one of the Czech republics finest offerings an excellent condition cz82, of the she 86 variety. At some point in her storied past she has been refinished, either the finest park job I have ever seen or something akin to a rust blue. Either way satin is what I prefer. So after putting a couple boxes of the cheap stuff through to make sure she isnt sick I went to work pitting my name on her,  although she had been refinished she still wore her original beat up grips, so I gave them the same treatment I had before ie sanded them to a shape more pleasing to my overly meaty hands and then sprayed them with a coat of truckbed liner. I know sounds kinda shade tree but it makes for excellent purchase and I recently talked with the guy I had sold my last one to and apparently it is very durable. Also being familiar with the almost nonexistent and expensive variety of holsters availibe I decided to try my hand at making one and a mag holster, I think I did ok for my first.

What do yall think?

Nice looking setup.  May have to get a replacement set of factory grips and have a wack at the old ones like you did.  Also, if I hadn't already purchased a holster that I do like (25 year-old german police style) I would have asked how much you'd charge to make one for me.  I think you might have a market for them, if so inclined!  As far as my 83, I got a that nickel finish in an '89...I love it!!

I like what you'd did there!

FYI, my CZ-82 has truck bed liner sprayed grips for years.  It is in my EDC rotation and the grips show no signs of wear.  If they did another coat of spray would probably be all it takes to make them 'new' again.
