Switching from g43, need convincing
« on: February 11, 2016, 09:03:03 PM »
Some time ago, I picked up a Block 43 for times that my P-01 isn't "concealable" enough. Over the past few months I've found myself carrying the 43 far more than the 01. As much as I don't care for glocks in general, the 43 works extremely well. In terms of carry, it's so comfortable it makes you lazy. Well, my wife decided it works for her so that left me in need of a replacement. I briefly tried a Lionheart LH9NC, just because. Holstered/carried well, but didn't like shooting it at all. I'm trying to talk myself into a Rami, but it just doesn't seem that much smaller than a compact. It's been about a year since I handled a rami, back then it seemed too small.  :o

In my mind there isn't that much difference between the Rami and P01 in size and weight.  You need to go to a small single stack to get the size advantages that allowed you carry the G43 on a daily basis.

Several small, compact, reliable choices are already in this class.  I don't think you would go wrong with a Ruger LCP/9, Sig 238/938, or one of the many varieties of Kahr.  Even the G42/43 seem to be decent guns.

I use the G43 when I need  a subcompact, and the P01 when I am able to dress to conceal it.  Many forum members swear by the RAMI, but for me it never felt right unless I had the extended mag in. With the extended mag it was not better for carry than the P01.  I  would love to see a CZ single stack subcompact, but am not holding my breath. For me the P01 G43 combo works very well. FWIW I tried a pile of other subcompact 9mm models before settling on the G43.

Cheers

The Glock 43 is nice, but I much prefer the Springfield XDS 9 which is the same size as the G43 in all directions. The other carry guns I would consider are the Kahr CM9 and PM9. I love CZs, but they are too large for me for year round concealed carry.

I know this is said many times on the forum, but it needs another plug so maybe CZ will listen to more voices. They need to make a single stack version of their incredible pistols! I feel like little single stacks are just settling for less, but so many of us need these little guns when the big pistols just don't make practical sense for concealed carry. Ugh, oh well... complaining over. Until then I have to use other brands I enjoy less.

I love my CZs, but I don't own any of the smaller carry friendly models (yet) primarily due to the increased weight. I carry a Glock 27 when I need "deeper concealment". Say what you will about Glocks, but my 27 runs flawlessly, conceals better in my typical setup than my XDs (it is thicker but it has a shorter grip), and handles the recoil of the 40 really well. YMMV, but that 27 turned me from a skeptic to a fanboy.

Rch024, I didn't mean for that to be anything against Glocks or any of the other reputable and great brands that produce pocket pistols. I apologize if it came off that way. We're lucky to have a plethora of quality pistols,  from many reputable brands these days. Within those realms of quality and reliability it really boils down to preferences that fit each person. That said... Even though I like and appreciate many of those other brands (and own some of them)  I would still love to have a single stack version of the cz 75.

Honestly, I really respect and envy you comrades who carry those compact guns in 40 and larger. Being relatively new to pistols I still haven't gotten to the point where I enjoy shooting those larger rounds fast and accurately. It's a training and mental thing I haven't achieved yet.

At this point I have pretty much decided against the Rami. Some day I'll buy one but right now it just doesn't fit. I should buy another G43, but I think I'm going to go with a Performance Center Shield. My non-CZ's aren't what I consider forever guns so I might as well have a little fun along the way. I've looked at Kahrs and the reach to the trigger is too short for my hand. PC Shield feels good, has a relatively nice improved trigger and the ported barrel is a nice conversation piece.  If this group didn't jump up in support of the Rami, I figure it isn't right for my intended application. Thanks for the opinions.

No offense taken, just wanted to offer up my experiences as a data point. I was firmly in the "I don't like it, and you can't make me" group when it came to Glocks at one point, so I just wanted to share my opinion on the matter.

One of my favorite parts about the current market is that there's something for everybody. What works for me might not work for someone else, and that's perfectly fine by me!
