What new handgun should I get next?
« on: March 13, 2016, 09:08:35 PM »
So, getting a tax refund this year, and would like to do my patriotic duty and help stimulate the economy, by getting another firearm. Use for this gun would be carry and some IDPA competition. Caliber would be 9mm except for option 9 & 10.

I've shot my wheelguns in the last three years of IDPA competition and this year have been shooting my CZ P09 successfully. My experience w/ the P09 has given me great confidence in that platform.

I've been carrying a s&w m&p 9c or Ruger LCR mostly. Neither have proven bad, am just looking for a gun I'd be more comfortable carrying in today's crazy world.

I also have a SIG 220 carry & 320 compact I carry occasionally. Cost is a variable to consider as well & as a retired soldier, I do qualify for the SIG discounts.

So vote & justify your choice given what I told you above

Thanks in advance

I voted for the P-01 before I read your post. Since you are going to carry it I would go for thr RAMI. I carry it and really like the size. The P-01 I carry once in a while and the PCR sometimes. Living in Florida during the winter and NC in the summer, the RAMI is more concealable.

I say get the S&W model 65 with a three inch barrel because it looks cool, it will increase in value 10% each year, they don't make the model 65 anymore so if you have the chance to get one jump on it.

I have a 3" model 13, the blued version of the 67. Loaded with Federal's 357B or Remington's HTP 125gr SJHP, If I want to carry 38Special ammo, I've yet to find a better loading than Buffalo Bore's heavy +P 158gr LSWCHP. I have complete confidence in it's ability to stop an attacker with any of the listed ammo. Normally carried OWB in a Bianchi Minimalist and IWB in a Galco King Tuck. Not as small as my LCR 327 or 357 but the extra inch of barrel make a big difference in velocity and accuracy.

P-01/PCR/Compact D, any of these would be great if you like the traditional CZ look and feel, and I personally believe the PCR is one of the best designed CCW pistols ever. If you really like your P-09, and want to stay in that genre, the P-07 is the same thing, and small enough to CCW with good leather and a good belt.

PCR.

Mine is on the way to perhaps steal time away from my Beretta PX4SC.  Not a sub compact, but compact enough for OWB for sure.  High capacity mags from 75 are compatible (17 round MecGars for instance).  Finally, you gotta love the hammer!  Being able to cock it for more precise SA shooting allows for range fun rather than an arm's reach shooting session --  Whats the fun in that!?

I also voted for the P-01.  I just took mine to the range for the first time this afternoon:

just something to think about.

what gun is not made anymore?  i would be going for that first since the more you wait, the less there are of them.  Then work your way down  the list.

I've given this a lot of thought and I think you need one of each. Get two of the ones you really like :)

You, sir, are a man whose bank account I'd like to meet ;D. Alas, my funds allow for only one of the above.......

I voted PCR. In my opinion the PCR is the best compact carry handgun in existence. I got mine the first week of January and I've been carrying it every day since. It's only ever so slightly heavier than the RAMI, but it's got a longer sight radius (better accuracy), and in my opinion the full sized grip is much more comfortable (easier to control). Throw it in a hybrid holster of your choosing (I use a SHTF Gear) and you're set for all day carry with a handgun that shoots and handles just as well as a full sized 75.
