Optics for the PDW set up...
« on: March 11, 2016, 12:40:38 PM »
So I've been blessed with a surplus of quality optics now for a while and I'm having a hard time deciding what route to go for my personal setup.

My options I have available to me right now are an aimpoint H-1 micro, a primary arms micro red dot (some have seen in production pictures) and a trijicon RMR 1 MOA.

Now all of them have pros and cons.

The aimpoint is rugged, dependable and lasts forever it seems however with the mount I have right now (ARMS quick detach) I can't use any kind of covers on the lenses so it's exposed.

The Primary arms micro red dot is not as robust as the aimpoint or RMR, however it has lens covers that flip out of the way very easily. But then it has lens covers that are not conducive to a PDW setup.

The trijicon RMR is an all around great little optic (just not when it's mounted on the slide of a pistol), it's easy to use has decent battery life and is almost indestructible. However the issue here is the mount i have for it makes it sit just a little higher than the sites so it doesn't co-witness. Not a huge issue for me but enough so that i'm not just jumping on the bandwagon right now.

So what do you guys think of the options, are there more pro's and cons I didn't consider so far that I should before settling down on one optic or the other?

H1 if your looking for cowitness plus it is an aim point. I'm using a sparc 2 and its lowest mount and its a absolute cowitness. The adt1 qd micro mount I just ordered will make mine perfect.

I'm low budget - TRS-25. It co witnesses perfectly, and works extremely well. No covers, but when stored there is a cloth cover I use over the top to keep it dust free. :)
