CGW hammer worth every penny
« on: June 29, 2016, 02:59:48 PM »

Installed CGW's hammer in my P-09 last night. It took all of 30 minutes which is pretty darn fast for me.  Watch out for that ejector spring, it will leap out if you aren't careful.  Used Joe's videos to refresh my memory and confirm I was doing it right.

Both SA and DA are much improved, breaks like glass. Virtually all creep in my P-09 is gone. I used to be able to see the sear lift right before the stock hammer fell, not so with the new hammer.  I do however noticed the DA pull is significantly heavy right before the break.  It was there with the stock hammer but not as significant.

On a similar note: I have an older version of the CGW oversized roller. It was installed last year and exhibited similar heavy pull so it went back in the parts box.

Email to CGW pending. Maybe they have some suggestions, e.g. polish the trigger bar?

Still, I'm happy with the hammer at least dry firing it.  Holding myself back from quitting work early to take it to the range.

I did the full monty and went with the pro package. My ejector spring launched on me, and somehow miraculously bounced off a floor joist (above me in basement) my hat, and then landed in front of me on my bench.

Glad to hear the hammer is working out.

Here is a link to some good information on the subject.  I believe you are on the right track regarding the trigger bar.

I'm spoiled, I guess, and a confirmed CGW fanboy, also.   :)  I have the CGW hammer in two P-09s and one P-07.  I wasn't going to install one in the P-07 but the stock hammer was awful.  So I went back and reviewed my own videos, found my stash of spare springs and parts, and put the CGW hammer in as soon as it was received.  Fixed the rough single action pull.  Gun goes with me everywhere now.

Even a carry/defense gun can benefit from the CGW hammer is my point.  Doesn't have to be a range/match/run-and-gun gun.

Its bad when you get old enough to have to watch your own videos before taking a plastic pistol apart.

Gotta agree the CGW hammer is awesome. But, for me, I don't plan on adding to my carry pistol. Just personal preference.
In my SP01 it's scary nice. I even put the factory TRS back to get a little more resistance.
Not even considering it for my Rami at this time. But hey, that's what's great about modding these pistols. You can set each one up for your own personal preference.

I have it in my 09 but not in the 07. I honestly can't tell a very big difference between the two.  Not enough to need it in the 07 anyways

I think there is enough variations in these pistols for folks to see different results.  On my 75B, the CGW hammer is fine for a range/bullsye gun but too crisp for a carry gun.  On my P-09s and P-07, the factory triggers were OK on two but not on the P-07, way too gritty and definitely worse than either P-09. The CGW P-07/09 hammer is fine in it, even for a carry/instruction/defense gun.  I like a little more sear engagement on the bullseye and carry guns than I get with the CGW hammers in the 75/97.  I had to heavy up the trigger on the 97 with the CGW hammer.   But that 75B frame and hammer/sear have a LOT of rounds through them!

I installed the ProGrade upgrades on my UG P-07 this past weekend... DA is, of course, smoothed out but the real story is the SA! No more creep, crisp break, no noticeable over travel and the reset is much shorter. Even better than the PCR I had and it was great!

I chose not to polish, as I like to let parts wear in naturally, so it will only get better... :)

Joe,

Can you describe "more sear engagement"? Are you describing deeper/taller hammer hooks?  I associate that with trigger creep.

Yep, creep to some is a bad word.  Not to me.  I like to be able to put some pressure on the trigger without it going off.  Unexpectedly.
