Compact models vs P01, help please
« on: May 30, 2016, 11:43:44 AM »
Hello all, greetings from NC.

I'm in the market for a CZ compact model, I have fallen in love with their ergonomics since my brother purchased a P07 awhile back.  I'm looking for a multi-purpose weapon I can carry concealed and keep in the nightstand, as well as try my hand at some competitive shooting (IDPA type).

I like the 75 Compact line as well as the P01. Am I correct in the two compact models (75PCR, and the regular Compact) that the only difference is the sights and the trigger, decocker vs safety?  Are the sights on the PCR pretty good or are they getting replaced pretty quickly? I'm coming over from the Glock world so I'm used to throwing factory sights in the trash can.

The P01 is simply the compact model with a rail correct? Otherwise these guns are nearly the same with the exception of the actions (decocker vs safety vs Omega) and the sights?

Thank you for the assistance

Compact models vs P01, help please

The P-01 and PCR are aluminum frames, the Compact is steel framed. If you're interested in a P-01 with manual safety then the new P-01 convertible should be in gun shops soon, it has the same trigger system as the P-07 you mentioned and can be swapped from decocker to safety.
The only other manual safety P-01 would have come via CZ Custom, the Compact L or an SDP package. They are tough to find and carry a heavier price tag.
Sorry, can't answer your question about the sights.

Both the P-01 and PCR have really lousy factory sights; I had mine replaced at CZ Custom. Curiously, my P-06 came with great Meprolight sights and was perfect out of the box, and is the gem of the collection. Note, however, that for whatever reason unbeknownst to this writer, some number of P-01 apparently ship with Meprolight sights.

FWIW, the PCR has additional features, but the P-01 (and P-06) has a rail that, even if you never use it, adds weight up front and thus slightly reduces muzzle flip. I don't shoot competition, but I've heard competitive shooters say that they like the extra weight, which is why the SP-01 (basically, a P-01 with a 1" longer barrel) is the preferred pistol of many top competitors (as opposed to the non-railed plain 75).

Since the compact is steel framed it is quite a bit heavier than the PCR. If you ware looking for a light weight compact type gun with a safety the Canik (tristar etc) line is where to be. Same feel as the compact with alloy frame and uses CZ mags.

BTW the SP01 is MUCH more than a P01 with longer barrel trigger wise etc. but yes the extra weight helps you get back on target faster.  It is also steel frame where the P01 is alloy and comes in either safety version of decocker version.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

I carry a 75 Compact and really like it. My IWB holster is fairly large so it distributes the weight very well. I put a set of Meprolights on it, and even though I haven't dialed it in quite yet, it is still light years better without the original sights.

I'd recommend the 75C to anybody, it's a great shooter.

With that said, I am going to pick up a P-01 Omega Convertible as soon as I can. I like manual safeties, the Omega trigger system, and the alloy frame is a big plus for me. I'm super excited for it.

..or find a P-02, ha.

Thank you all for the info, I didn't realize the Standard 75 compact was all steel and the PCR, and P01 were aluminum. I guess it's I have to weigh my options, lighter weight aluminum frame for better long term carrying and increased muzzle flip, or steel frame with increased weight but more control. Like someone else posted a good holster can minimize the weight difference.

Thank you for the info again, I still have some looking to do.

I carried a P-02 (the same as the "old" P-01, but with a manual safety only) not too long ago and I carry a 75 compact now. The recoil on each gun is pretty similar, but the P-01 is noticeably lighter when carrying all day. That's not to say the 75 compact is difficult to carry, because it isn't, but the P-01 wins out on that category.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the new P-01 convertible that should be hitting stores very soon has a better trigger shape in that it is flatter. (Okay, not everyone likes a flatter trigger, but I do!) I find the flatter triggers easier to shoot, so if you do it's also something worth considering.

I've got a CZ 75 Compact and one of the new P01s.

The P01 is so much lighter.  Not saying that's better, just saying it's one of the things I notice sometimes is the lightness of it compared to the Compact.

I'm fine with the sights on the P01.  Mine is the suppressor ready model so it has different sights than a standard P01 (I suppose).  They are also night sights.  The P01 sights are better than the Compact sights, in my opinion.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Iggy,

I was very lucky to find a NIB compact on GB.  I picked the 75 compact because of the weight to play in IDPA/CCP.

If I'm going to carry it? The PCR (my EDC). Those few ounces will definitely make a difference after a day of schlepping a pistol around. If it's more of a nightstand/ competition piece? I'd go with the full sized. whe I shoot the PCR well, I shoot a full sized, steel framed pistol even better.
Of course, I've been wrong before...Tony

For my dime the PCR all the way. I added the TruGlo TFX sights,  G10 grips and a 2 lb lighter mainspring. This is now my EDC and is the most accurate handgun I have. It is just a joy to carry and shoot.
