subsonic in a kadet
« on: February 03, 2010, 06:57:25 AM »
im looking into buying a kadet kit and having it threaded so i can slap a TAC65 on it. my one worry is whether or not the kadet kit will cycle subsonic .22LR.

whats your experience, does the kadet kit have any issues with subsonic ammo?

(if this has been posted before i apolagize, i couldnt find it)
thank you
-Matt

Matt, if you can wait a couple weeks, I can answer that question for you. I just got a Kadet kit and I have a gazillion rounds of various target ammo and sub-sonics on hand to use with it. I'm winding down a household move right now, but intend to get back shooting ASAP.

FWIW, I've never had trouble cycling several types of sub-sonic ammo through my suppressed 10/22 (14" barrel). The donor action is all stock.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

I don't own a Kadet Kit (and would like to),  but I have seen several threads with the following:

CCI Mini-Mag will cycle the KK nicely.

Sub-sonic rounds may require a spring change to cycle reliably.

I shoot CCI "Target" and would hope the KK would agree with my choice, but it doesn't sound like it.

Hopefully someone with experience will give 'us' some good info.

I have tried some different brands of .22 through my Kadet with a suppressor. CCI standard and Winchester-something (Hollowpoints in a bulk pack) were subsonic out of my Kadet - as standard velocity .22 often is out of a short pistol barrel. A somewhat hotter loaded Lapua hollowpoint would sometimes give a sonic crack. Z-long rounds, intended for indoor use did not cycle the action. (But were "Hollywood" quiet  ;D) I will have to check my notes to see if I have shot any other dedicated subsonic rounds. But chances are that standard velocity ammo will work for you, just stay away from the various "Hi-velocity" brands.

I have a full kadet pistol with a tac65 on it. It has run every and any ammo I have thrown at it. With its short barrel most ammo will be subsonic, but the sub ammo is a bit quieter. I like the aqulia 40 gr subs. Nice and quiet. My kadett is the only semi auto I own they will cycle.....

I've shot hundreds of rounds of various Aguila sub-sonics through my Kadet with no mods and have had no problems with cycling.

Subs work fine in both of mine. One does have lighter spring specifically for subs with suppressor but the other is stock.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

I just picked up a kadet kit a few weeks ago and have run a couple hundred rounds of the remington subsonic and a couple hundred rounds of the CCI subsonic with not even one glitch.  The kadet is very accurate and has handled everything I have run through it without out one jam.  I have had two rounds not fire (the cheap remington gold tip stuff) but each rim had a good dent from the firing pin so I am sure it was just the cheap ammo.

I will be trying PMC Moderator sub-sonic in my KADET this week.
Will report back the results when I have them.

While I don't have a Kadet, I have chronographed .22 SV and HV ammunition in two different Ruger Mark IIIs, my Beretta 92 conversion, and two Ruger SR22s. I all of these guns all HV ammo is subsonic.

The speed of sound is 1,127 fps at sea level. The only ammunition I could get to exceed this figure was Remington Yellow Jackets and CCI Velocitors in my Mark III target.

No rush. He hasn't been to the forum in over two years, so I guess he found out on his own ;)

So, I am at the range now and the PMC moderators are cycling nicely through my Kadet. This is nice to know since I have over 12 K rounds of Moderators.
