Rami aftermarket grip holes
« on: June 19, 2016, 07:17:54 AM »
In looking at aftermarket grips for the Rami, I see some have oblong holes (like the originals) and some are round.  Will round holes work or do they cause a problem with the bushings or grip stability?

Thanks.

First of all , thanks, I had never checked my grip screws on the Rami and they were all loose. I seems the reason that the holes in the grips are not round is that the bushings arn't round, they have flat sides. I don't see any reason that round holes would not work as long as they fit over the bushings.

Can someone who has actually installed aftermarket grips with round holes comment?

The round holes fit.
The slots help keep the bushings from screwing in when you put the grip screws in. After installing any grip you may need to adjust the bushing a little. If it's screwed in too far, the mag can stick a bit.
And YES, I have aftermarket grips with round holes. [emoji6]

I have 1911 style wood grips with round holes. I did have to install o-rings because the screws would loosen after 50 rounds. Haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for that feedback.  I was thinking O-rings might be needed.

I'd love to make oblong holes in my grips, just haven't found a drill bit that will do that yet.  ;D

If the bushings move too much (like mine after test fitting lots of grips), you can use a little drop of locktite to keep them in place.

My RAMI's bushings had been compromised when the original owner forced the wrong size screw into them. I eventually had to have the bushings repaired and re-tapped. A real hassle.
