New Outer Recoil Spring
« on: July 11, 2016, 02:14:43 PM »
Holy cow!  I was having problems with misfeeds and I replaced the recoil spring with one from the Wolff 18# set discussed elsewhere.  Solved my problem.  But my hand and wrist is seriously sore after firing 200 rounds!  Would a stiffer spring make that much difference in the recoil??  Maybe I just needed a new spring; not necessarily a stronger one.

I am using the factory recoil springs, both before and after extensive CGW mods.  I need to replace the stock outer recoil spring every 600 rounds or so, because it starts to misfeed occasionally.  Each time, after the outer recoil spring replacement, the misfeeds stop occurring.  People generally:
1. Increase the recoil spring power if  they consistently use high power ammo, or
2. just replace the factory recoil spring if the cartridge ejection distance become excessive (greater than perhaps 10-12 feet), indicating a weak spring.
Otherwise, no need to increase the recoil spring weight.  IMHO

New factory outer recoil springs should arrive today.  I'm going to switch out the heavier spring for a new factory spring and take it to the range again.  The heavier spring basically sprained my hand and wrist.  Took three days to get back to normal!  I wasn't as accurate with the bigger recoil either.  I'm going to assume you are right and go with a standard recoil spring.
