recoil pad for a 527 7.62x39
« on: May 21, 2016, 12:26:13 AM »
I am surprised at the recoil from my first 50 rounds . Bruised my shoulder worse than my friend's shotgun. Anybody have a recoil pad ? I got a small size air tech limb saver but it is too small

Is there any pad at all on the 527 that comes with it or just a butt plate?

I have a .223 CZ 527 Carbine. It comes with a soft rubber pad on the butt.

7.62x39 has a fair amour of kick and the stock pad is not much help

Another thing to check for I guess.

A buddy, who is very recoil shy, is thinking about a centerfire rifle after shooting my guns. His favorite was my CZ 455 .22LR, so a CZ527 in .223 seems the natural choice.

I agree. I own a .22LR 455 Trainer as well as my .223 527 Carbine and they are a nice combo. The .223 has more felt recoil than the .22 but I'm sure it's nothing compared to a larger caliber rifle or a shotgun.

I tried the medium size and it was tighter than the small size. I found the 7.62x39 bolt action has substantially more recoil than my friends' AKs despite a longer barrel. Probably so because some of the recoil of the AK is absorbed by the gas piston. Did you find the same thing to be true in the .223 / 5.56 ?

I have a small Pachmayr Decelerator slip-on pad that I use to increase the LOP on my Winchester 94.  It "fits" on my 527M but just barely.  Looking at the Pachmayr web site it looks like the medium size should fit perfectly on the 527M stock, which measures 1 5/8" x 5 1/4".  Be advised that this pad will increase LOP by an inch.  I'm not especially recoil sensitive, despite having some minor shoulder problems, but this pad reduces 30-30 recoil to a light push compared to a somewhat sharp slap.

Since trying the Pachmayr pad on my 527M for this post I might try a medium sized one on this rifle.  The increased LOP helps solve the long eye relief issue I have with the Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32 scope I have mounted.
