Picked Up My New CZ 75B and Kadet Kit - Some Questions
« on: January 10, 2002, 04:04:01 PM »
My Mass LTC was finally issued and I picked up my 75B and Kadet 22LR kit that were waiting at the dealer.  I got the "Glossy Blue" version and it really looks good.  To make it Mass legal it was mfg'ed in late 1998.  I like the whole look and feel of the gun.  It seems to have a very finished look with all the edges rounded.  Many autos are big and bulky looking with sharp squared off shapes.  IF I didn't know the price I would guess much higher than I paid.  Money aside...  I would have picked out from the case anyway.

The Kadet slide will need some filing to fit.  The instructions seem straiaghtforward.  The dealer showed me how to do it.   The black polymer finish next to the glossy blue looks OK to me.  I would have preferred them both in gloss... but that's what is available.

I will be firing for the first time this weekend.  I want to fire the first 30 or so at our club's indoor range to check the accuracy using same sand bags for support... and then move to the outdoor range.  The club requires that I use "lead only"... no jackets at the indoor site.  The only stuff I could find was a "Williams" brand... 100 115gr in a plastic pouch for $10.95.  These were decribed as high quality reloads by the dealer.

Are these likely to malfunction???  Anybody ever heard of these??

I also bought 2 boxs of American Eagle 115gr FMJs and a box of PMC 115gr FMJ to set what works.

For the Kadet setup I bought 22LR 40gr American Eagle in 500 qty box.

Any advice on how to do the first firing???  Any do's and don'ts??  Is there a normal procedure??

            Thanks for the help

Just shoot the darned thing.

I think you're going to have to shoot it a while before you can make a meaningful assessment of its ability -- most of your first box or two of ammo will be used to just get used to the gun and its trigger pull.

Its a rare shooter who can shoot a new gun to its full potential the first time out.  I've got any number of guns that I wasn't able to shoot well, out of the box... but over time seemed to get better and better with them.  Don't know why that is, but it seems to be a "psychological thing."  After having shot it 4-5 times, now, I'm just getting to where I can shoot my DaeWoo worth a hoot.  [Still haven't been able to make my CZ-40B shoot where I think it should, however.]

Start up close.  Check that the sights are right, and start shooting.  Move the target back, etc.

Shoot a couple of sessions, let the new/novelty wear off,  and then get down to the serious assessments.   It'll save you a lot of frustration and it won't get you upset with the gun, unnecessarily.

I'll be surprised if you aren't tickled with gun.  But don't expect too much the first time out.  You'll probably have problems, and it won't be the gun...

I recomend you don't tinker with the adjustable rear sight until you have shot the gun a bit. I found mine was dead on, after some shooting practice.

I never heard of a jacketed .22lr round. Aren't they hust coated with wax?

Thanks for the advice.

Sorry to be confusing,  I mixed together my comments about the 9mm standard pistol and the Kadet conversion kit.

The club restriction applies to all ammo shot at the indoor range.  The club recovers the lead and sells it and the jacketed bullets eat up the metal backstops too quickly.

I will be shooting both 9mm and 22LR on Saturday.  The "Williams Cartridge Co." ammo is for the 9mm indoor range work.  The 22LR is normal unjacketed from American Eagle stuff.

I dumped out the plastic bag last night and took a close look at the un-jacketed Wiliams 9mm reload stuff.  The cases are a mixture of Winchester, PMC, Remington and some I don't recognize.  They aren't shiny but they seem to be of consistent quality.   Of course,  I have no idea about the powder used... they may burn dirty.  Would it make any sense to lube them a little with a light oil???

Your club must not have many folks shooting Glocks, H&Ks and newer CZ-83s.

Those guns all have polygonal barrels, and unless they've been fitted with after-market barrels, shooting lead in them is potentially dangerous (at least in theory) and voids their warranties...

My club, which is associated with a commerical range, also collects the lead -- and sells it.  We shoot both lead and jacketed bullets.

Walt,

Your post makes sense..  I'll ask the guys at the range this weekend.  There is a big Pistol group and they must be using those guns.
