I have both a CZ82 (9x18) and a CZ83 (.380).

Before this article I was unaware that there was a different Czech load for the CZ82 (2nd page, next-to-last paragraph).

Is that ammo still obtainable?

If so, what is it called other than 9mm Makarov?

Czechoslovak ammunition vz. 82 is designed specially for vz. 82 pistol and each other.
Specific for the pistol is polygonal "rifling" of barrel. There can be used vz. 82 ammo or 9x18 Mak ammo. Both are about the same dimensions.
Specific for bullet vz. 82 is made from sintered steel powder, so it is much harder then classic FMJ and is fairly destructive for barrels with grooves and fields, designed for standard 9x18 Mak (e.g. Makarov pistol)

Very cool, I'll have to save and print that.  In the mid to late 90s, I was an FFL and did still did a lot of gun shows, even though I was a full time LEO.  I picked up an .380 auto CZ 83 (rounded trigger guard) at a big show is was a vendor at sometime after they first came in in the early to mid 90s.  I thought is was really cool, but was disappointed that they would not let me carry it as a duty weapon as a detective.  They allowed .38 specials, but not .380s.  My high caps go back to then.

That was really fun to read.  Thanks for taking the time and energy to post. I just recently got into cz's and they are fast becoming my favorites.

What does the rifling marks on the bullet look like with polygon rifling?
