"Fancy" checkering pattern on CZ 550FS?
« on: September 10, 2016, 11:03:04 PM »
Was there was a range of years where the fancier checkering was produced? I'm looking to acquire an FS and may end up having to purchase one new, and I'm trying to find out how I can most easily track on of these models down. I'm attached an image of what I'm looking for, though I assume most of you are aware of what I speak. Any pointers would be amazing. Thanks!

I'm no expert, but what CZ models were produced and what was imported to the US are 2 different categories. Then there is the third group of guns that are here in the US but shouldn't be, like Australian or Euro editions. Or the fourth group that must be custom factory orders. I think my FS goes there. I have looked at a lot of FS pictures online but can't even find a stock without the check piece. Online images seems to show three variations of the check piece, the butt pad and subtle differences in the style. Good luck on your search and if you find out anything on my unicorn post it up.

That's looks like the checkering that they put on the stocks of the 550's when they did their last "upgrade" 6-8-10 years ago.  Stock geometry was also changed a little from the previous version.  I had a 6.5 American with that style of stock, but don't remember how long ago it was...... ???

Here is a link to an article that looks at both stock designs, early vs later. Problem is you can search the web and find variations.

That is the checkering pattern I have on my 550 Lux (.270W) that is stamped as a 2013 build. I'm in Australia.

Thanks for the replies so far, folks. So it appears that the newer production rifles are more likely to have the aesthetic touches I'm looking for. Good to know!
