P-09 in 40S&W?
« on: September 25, 2016, 11:28:13 AM »
Got a hankering for another 40 S&W.  Only have one, a Glock 23. Feel like I've got 9 and 45 fairly well covered and just feel a need for another 40. Maybe it's election jitters. Love my SP01 and P07 in 9mm and guessing the P09 would be awesome in 40.  Will be a range/bedside gun and possibly local IDPA. Getting ready to order dies for my Dillon 550 to load 40 so needing another gun to shoot it through.

Or you could do like I did buy a complete 9mm slide for my PO7 40 and have a PO7 that does both, even the magazines will feed just fine with either 9 or 40. CZ USA did have used complete slides in stock, don't know if they are still some available.

I looked at their web site yesterday and it looks like all those Gen 1 P07 9MM upper assemblies are gone, or was it CZ USA.  One or the other.  Both groups used to sell them, so check both web sites (CZ Custom and CZ USA.)

I have a P09 in .40 S&W.  My wife likes it.  She's not really recoil sensitive (ought to see her shoot a Colt 1911) and between that and the extra weight of the P09 she shot it really well the last time she went to the range.  I've not tried anything heavier than 135 grain (hollow points) or 140 grains (lead) bullets in mine so far.  I've bought some 180 grain lead bullets but haven't gotten around to loading any yet.

The P09 is a pretty big gun.

No issues with mine, so far.

Realize magazines are pretty expensive compared to the CZ 75 type magazines.

Seems like I'm seeing the .40 S&W P09's cheaper than the 9MM guns.  I'm thinking it's because people are buying as many .40's now that the FBI is changing over to 9MM (again).  You know how some folks are, they want what they hear someone else is using, even if what they have is working great.  Keep you eye open for a deal and it probably won't be hard to find.

The older I get, the worse I get at spelling.  I don't know if I'm typing too fast or just not paying attention or if it's more serious that that.  Such as typing here instead of hear.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I noticed this too. Good time to pick up one.

I also picked up a .40 P-09 for really cheap at a local GS of mine. This just happens to be my first polymer pistol, along with my first full size 40. Needless to say it is a great shooter. It's quite large but it's my HD bedside firearm and for that it's very manageable.

I've put a little over 200 rounds through it at this point and it's been flawless. It's eaten all the Blazer, UMC and Federal FMJs I've put through it; while also feeding/shooting HSTs with no issue. All rounds have been 180gr. I actually enjoy the higher loads, it's a comfortable round to shoot in a gun that absorbs recoil so well.

It's my second go with the Omega trigger, my first being the P-01 Omega 9mm. I really like this trigger system. It's much better and more refined than the trigger on my 75 Compact. It doesn't bite, there's very little grit and I like the shape. For what it's worth, I have the medium backstrap installed on my frame and I like the extra bulk. The small is just too small.

I've ordered an Inforce APL for the rail and hope it will perform as good as it will look.

I'd recommend this firearm for anyone who has a hole in their arsenal. I was never a polymer fan, but I couldn't turn down the price and I have absolutely no regrets. I always clean my firearms but these Duty style pistols definitely break down and clean up a little easier.

Go for it while their so ridiculously cheap!

Thanks OP for posting this thread. I also enjoyed the replies from the other members. I just ordered a .40 cal P 09 for my job because of their standard. (I'm a 9mm and 45 type)

I was going to start a thread about it. Due to my inexperience I was wondering how CZs handled 40s. But it seems like their build quality is just as good as their 9mms after seeing the replies

I always toy with the idea of building up a 40 P09 for limited. But TacSport!

I love my P09 in .40.  I bought it off of a member of this forum and it already had the CGW upgrades done.  Before this one, my main carry gun in the winter was a Gen 3 Glock 23, and while I still own and love that gun, the P09 was good enough to convince me that I needed to add a P07 in .40 to the stable as well.  I'm still breaking that one in, but once I've got a couple of hundred rounds through it, it will become my EDC during winter months.

I just threw an Inforce APL on mine and it balanced the gun so well. A little over two ounces underneath the barrel reduces an already low-recoil firearm.
