Sight Snobbery
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:33:23 AM »
Hello all,

I'm a new CZ owner, gave up on my Glock for concealed carry for a PCR.  Don't get me wrong the Glock was reliable and accurate but my hands were a little too big to get a real solid grip when drawing the gun, I found myself having to really concentrate on proper grip and manipulating my fingers to keep it correct, compare that to this PCR which fits my hand perfectly with the rubber magazine pad extension.

With all that being said I find the factory sights to be lacking to put it lightly. I've looked at the options from TruGlo and while they appear to offer a huge upgrade in performance they just don't look right on top of these CZs.  The CZ design is nothing but curves from the grip to the radiused slide and that rear sight looks like a lego block stuck up there.  Again I'm not arguing about its performance, but man isn't there something out there that follows the factory lines a little better?

If I was putting that sight on my Glock I wouldn't have a care in the world as the Glock is a big rectangle anyway so it looks like it belongs there.  Have I become a sight snob and should just buy the TruGlo and accept its function first design over looks, or is there something else out there?

You didn't say exactly why you find them lacking.  I find them lacking simply because the white dots are so small.  It seems that CZ has not figured out that all of their potential buyers are not just out of high school.  If they just made the dots a little bigger, then I'd be fine with it.  If the dot size is the main problem, you could have a gunsmith drill the dot holes bigger and then fill them in.  If you'd like some illumination, you might try the XS 24/7 night sights.

You can get them with a big dot front sight or a regular size dot front sight.  I installed a set on my 9mm Kimber Pro Carry II and couldn't be happier.  It was the first set that I've ever installed and I managed to do it without scratching the pistol.  The key is to take your time and follow the instructions.  I used a vise with brass jaws to hold the slide.  I wrapped the slide in paper to keep the jaws from scuffing it.

CZ Custom has a great pair of trits for sale individually priced that I have on my PCR PRO. Very bright at night and with the white rings great daytime view. I think I paid $140 for both.

Thank you all for the replies, I actually had a set of those XS sights on a Glock 23 I used for carry purposes. I found that despite a decent amount of range time I never got quite as accurate with them as I was even with the Glock factory sights.  However for a carry gun I found they were incredibly fast for bringing the gun on to target. The only reason I was shying away from them is that half inch or so of sight radius you give up and that little flat spot it would leave on a PCR. Again as in the case with the TruGlo sights, they are 100% functional and an improvement over the stock piece, it just looks like someone ran out of ideas when they put them on.

I hadn't seen the CZC sights, anyone here running them and like them?  Those Straight 8 style ones seem appealing.
