OK, measured the factory mag, and compared them to several surplus METAL mags.

The suomi mag, while my favorite, will not fit forward to back without requiring modifying mags.

The modified mags WILL fit, and are essentially the same measurements as M11 or M10/9 magazines, would work fine.  But would require modding the mags.

To make it easier, the uzi mags would be the most simple (only would have to make a notch or slot on the rear of the magazine where the existing scorpion mag catch is).

Further, uzi magazines can be found in varying capacities but the most common are 25 and 32 rounders.

And they're pretty inexpensive too.  They can usually be found for under $14 each for the 32 rounders, and if you're diligent about $12 each.

The MP5 magazine would need the weirdest mag adapter of the bunch due to how the mp5 magazine is, but an even bigger catch to them, HK mp5 magazines or HK94 magazines are often $65 or so each, unless you get the cheap metal import mags for about $15 each, but the quality is really inferior to the HK actuals.

Here are a few photos for mockup.  But again, the uzi mags would be the easiest to make the adapter for due to its' size and shape, cost, and availability.

36 round modified suomi magazines (or M11 9mm magazines)

25 round uzi mag (32's are only slightly longer)

And the worst of the bunch, mp5

Very encouraging John.  Thank you so much!

As you had said earlier, the Colt 9mm AR-15 is based upon Uzi mags.  Being able to share mags between 9mm ARs and the Scorpion, fantastic.

Yeah, the 9mm colt AR mags and uzi mags are the same body.

Only difference is the location of the mag catch.  The AR15 sits higher on the mag body and is wider.

But my idea is to simply mill or dremel a notch in the REAR of the magazine where the scorpion catch is to be able to use the original scorpion stuff to make it more simple.

With colt 9mm ar and uzi mags being essentially the same body, would also make finding mags more simple for long term too.  And the shape of them would be the most simple to make the mag adapter for.

My vote is for uzi/colt 9mm mags.

Tony, the top mag is the colt ar mag, and the bottom is an unmodified uzi mag.

Thanks for including that image, which helps visualize the difference.

While you and I vote for the Uzi / Colt 9mm mags, others will have valid reasons for other preferences.

That said, because of the availability, durability, capacity, cost and of course simplicity involved, this option (Uzi / Colt) is likely to appeal to many...  And, as I said earlier, for those with 9mm ARs, and added bonus of being able to use the same mags, super sweet.

John, good stuff!

I would be open to the use of uzi or colt mags.  I know wit the uzi mag there would probably not be a bolt hold open, but that may not be a big deal with the H and K charging handle.  The colt mags do hold open the bolt in Colt 9mm carbines but may not be able to be made to work in this weapon.

Yup, on all points...

Sounds like you have enough of those mags lying around to begin experimenting?

I'm all for going to something like a Colt mag/modified Uzi mag but I personally would not buy an adapter to do this. I'd only be in if this was a permanent solution such as a new lower with the modified magwell being permanently a fixed.

While I'd love to share Shockwave's metal M11 mags with my scorpion; M11 mags are single feed and would require a bolt modification or an entire new bolt(which I'd be fine with either or if somebody were to figure this all out).

This leaves me voting for Colt 9mm/Modified Uzi mags...Though like I said, I'd prefer M11 mags with a modified bolt(or new bolt)..but again, only if there is a new lower too accept such(which goes for any option).

With all that said, I am still in the train of thought that better quality Scorpion mags are the actual answer...So CZ needs to get their !@## straightened out or somebody needs to design a superior Scorpion mag. Getting ETS or Lancer behind this would be cool in terms of quality polymer recipes with reputable magazine function in their past designs.

Nice work I like where this is going and In like the looks with straight mags. I'd love it if mods are cheap and affordable.

Even if it doesn't integrate the catch initially, it should be relatively simple to 3D print a magwell insert that would allow you to determine if Uzi mags would feed reliably enough.

I really like where this is going - had an UZI Model B many years ago, worst jammamtic I ever owned, if you can believe it. But the magazines are all over the place if you look, and a "kit" that would convert the Scorpion to UZI magazines would be a smoking deal indeed. In fact, I could see some big boys in the industry seeing this idea and jumping on it - get cracking and beat 'em to the punch!

Have been under the weather....  Glad this discussion is still going strong, and hopefully will have some legs.
