If you had a choice in front of you ??
« on: November 01, 2016, 06:50:28 PM »
Hey guys, I have  a PO 7 Gen 2 , change the hammer spring ,firing pin spring ,and polish The Living Daylights out of the inside now it's like buttered butter, it is my EDC and I like it a lot.
 I've been looking at the P 01
I love the shape and look of it and the reviews are fantastic, what a  history..the 75  p01 is near identical except for the Omega trigger, ? haven't put one in my hand yet but for some reason I'm dying to buy one because my thinking is if it's that reliable for all those government agencies that accept the testing it went through, it's got to be fantastic. I know both pistols are the same size as the P 07
If you had a choice between right in front of you ,
a 75 P-01 or an omega P01,
old vs new which one would you choose and why ? I'm looking for an answer from those who have both or have shot both and have an experienced opinion.

Are you looking for somebody who owns both a P-01 and a P-01 Omega? It may be easier to find someone here that lives close that will let you shoot whichever variant they have. I had a cajunized P-01 and saw no need to add an omega. I would think the converse would be true for many who have an omega. I find the p-01 to be more comfortable in hand, but the 07 to be a better shooter(but not due to the trigger). I'm in East Tennessee. If you're close, you're welcome to shoot any of mine. I still have a P-06, I kept it because it is much tighter than the P-01 I had.

In my experience both operating systems have advantages and disadvantages and the preference lies in what your intended use is for the pistol.

Standard System:
1. It is possible to fine tune the trigger to a much greater extent than Omega
2. It has been around longer so there are more spare parts available
3. In my experience the trigger is overall better - less mushy, more refined, crisper, and with a slightly shorter reset. Part of this is due to the trigger bar shape and also just the mechanics between the hammer and sear.
4. Detail stripping is a pain. Lots of small springs and pins to keep track of and more parts may need to be hand fit for everything to work properly.

TLDR: If you want to have the ability to tune the trigger to ride the lightning, or convert it to SAO, and you don't mind lots of tiny parts, the standard system is tough to beat.

Omega:
1. The omega system is MUCH easier to disassemble. There are fewer parts, fewer tiny springs and pins, and overall it is an easier gun to detail strip/clean/maintain.
2. You can swap safety and decocker if that's your jam
3. Most of the lock work parts are more or less drop in and you can swap them without much effort - CGW makes an excellent upgrade kit for the Omega pistols. The P01 can use almost all of the parts (not the DA roller).
4. Most people find the new trigger shape more ergonomic

TLDR: If your P01 is a tool or you want to be able to work on it to the detail strip level without much hassle and a "match grade" trigger isn't necessary for your use, then the Omega system does it well.

There are a few other threads on the topic of Omega vs. Standard if you search the forum - there may be additional detail there to help you choose.

Im a lefty, so it's  a easy choice.  The Omega. I do have 2 p01s though.  1 fully cajunized and 1 unfired. The ambi safety/decocker is my main decision maker. The Omega out of the box I hear is pretty nice already

I went through this decision a while ago, I chose the P01 Omega for the following reasons

1- I've had great success with my P09. The trigger & decocker style are comfortable for my hands. The P01 omega mirrors many of the 09's charteristics I like. Only change to it is swapping out the front sight to a fiber optic

2- I prefer the omega decocker mechanism to the standard. It's just a preference

3- I also prefer the trigger design- very similar to the P09, not as curved, so more familiar to my experience with the P09.

I prefer the decocker and don't anticipate changing it to a manual safety.

That said, I wouldn't mind getting a standard P01 or PCR. Don't think you can go wrong w/ either

I have a gen 2 P-07 and have added some aftermarket parts from CGW.Hammer and spring kit. I like the gun real well but were I faced with a choice and could only go one direction I'd stay with the traditional CZ lockwork. My other  CZ's are all of the old design and have all tuned up much smoother and crisper in da/sa respectively than the Omega system. Yes the old system is more complex but after some time and experience working with them and understanding how they operate I have no problem taking them down into their minor parts.

Neither is going to do something potentially different than the other.  If you have one that you're happy with, call that good, unless you WANT another, need is not going to really play into it.

Personally, I'd get a P01 omega for magazine compatibility with all my classic 75 platform'd guns and I like the trigger shape, decocker position, and sights better than the P01 classic.  I personally would just slick it up and use the spec spring weights/ OEM hammer if it was for carry.  Range toys, I would do a full action job on.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get out of the thing.  If you've got a gun you can shoot well and carries well in the P07, you'll likely get the same thing from the P01 (regardless of variant).  There's not going to be anything about any of the choices listed that will necessarily "do" anything the others won't.  Were I you and you decided you WANTED a P01 - I think the omega makes a lot of sense for you since it's got a similar trigger and decocking mechanism to your P07.

I don't think your P07 is going to be any less reliable than a P01.  it's built to the same tolerances and the design isn't all that different if we're honest.
