What Range do you Zero the iron Sights at?
« on: November 05, 2016, 01:26:14 AM »
Just got my evo yesterday haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but with the factory sights what range is the norm for zero with 9mm in a 7.7 barrel "pistol" evo.

25 yards ? 15 ? 17? etc

on a side note I'll prob end up swapping the factories for a set of diamondback or troy standard height "ar-15 top rail height" flip sights, these bleeped scorpion sights are much lower than I'm used to.

I sighted the factory sights in at 50 yards. But I'll probably never use them again. Now the EVO has a Burris Fastfire III on it. The factory's lower co-witness well with the Fastfire. I use the biggest aperture on the rear sight and it doesn't get in the way.

I like 25 yards. I also run a Fastfire at factory height.  With 147 subs a 25 yard zero gives me a pretty usable trajectory to 50 yards.  With 115, a 25 yard zero can make it to about 65 yards before it really starts to drop.

With an AR height sight, it would extend the range another 10-15 yards, but you'd really be lobbing them at anything past 75 yards.

I actually have mine zero'ed at 100 yards. However, I also discovered that a 100 yard zero for the Scorpion still allows for right on target up close and personal with the red dot. :)

I sight them in at my local gun range?  Does it matter if they are sighted in at a different gun range?

For those with something like a microdot (Aimpoint, Holosun, etc), is it desirable to have that zeroed at one range, like 100 yards, and iron sights at let's say 50?  No co-witnessing, the iron sights visible under the elevated microdot...

According to the ballistic calculator on gundata.org: 25 yard zero assuming a 2" height over bore and a 50 fps velocity boost from the longer barrel.

I've only shot at 50 yards with the pistol and carbine. With both I need to hold a 6 o'clock sight picture to hit dead center of a 3" plate. This is with the front sight bottomed out.

Currently my range goes to 75 yards, but I haven't had the chance to shoot that far since I'm in the process of extending out to 100 yards. It's a pain in the butt to cut down trees, work around stumps and rebuild the berm

"click" when you expect it to go "bang" and

been raining since yesterday non friggin stop on me so I can't go out back to the range but I did get to shoot some saturday until my uncle and his fiance stopped in for a suprised visit... then it got too dark  :-\... FROM THE FACTORY my evo is apparently zero'd dead accurate at 50 yards using winchester white box 115grn that I tested.. I was pleasantly suprised 9mm carbines can be this accurate about silver dollar groups using a front bag and iron sights on smallest aperature... THE ONLY thing I don't like is the sight height, I can use them fine I just am use to ar-15 height sights so I find myself bending my neck/head down after shouldering to get the correct sight picture

No problem, I have a lot of Natural Gear t-shirts, short and long sleeve, had a pair of pants but they went somewhere. Wish Walmart still carried the discounted stuff like they used to - have a Natural gear zip up light jacket I've been wearing for about 15 years now. I would love a complete BDU style set, as the pattern works well here in the upper desert.
