Crappy Bolt On 527, advice?
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:44:48 PM »
I have a 527 Varmint in 17 Hornet and while I'm very pleased with the performance of the rifle the bolt action is pretty crappy. It's just not very smooth cycling although it does lock up nicely. Heck the Savage Axis's I've tried are better.  Any advice?  Or do I just keep shooting the heck out of it until it smooth's out?

Keep shooting it.

It'll smooth out.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

+1. I've been underwhelmed with bolts on a couple of my 527s. They get a lot better with use.

Don't be afraid to grease the lugs and keep the rest oiled. It will help.

Thanks for the replies.  I'll just keep shooting it and sooner or later it will smooth out.  It's just a little frustrating when a gun that cost's half as much is much better cycling and just as accurate.  TC

Put a little toothpaste on the bolt and work it for awhile.

It seems all of the CZ rifles are like this, but they do smooth out quickly with use. My new CZ550 had sharp rails that used to mark the brass cases but this also disappeared fairly quickly.

I have a CZ 527 in .223 I have the same thing and have been told by CZ it will get better.
Don't get the new Mossburg patriot. It's half the price fluted bolt and barrel . Very smooth bolt action. That being said I love the CZ
I was told by CZ to try using grease. I put valve grinding compound on the bolt and worked repeatedly for a hour. Cleaned the bolt and gun very well. Greased the bolt and it is much better. Not great but better.
