P09 backstrap concerns
« on: December 23, 2016, 03:36:24 PM »
Hi all,

So i recently started noticing when I grip my P09 and present the firearm i hear the backstrap making a noise sounding like a sudden rub from plastic on plastic. its only the medium and large ones that do it so it obviously flexes causing a sudden rub causing a sound that always sounds and feels like plastic cracking. I dont use a death grip, i just use a firm enough shooting grip. Will a set of new backstraps maybe solve this? i did notice my medium and large straps are for some reason a half millimeter shorter than the small one length wise. so the sound could be caused by them sldeing up and down that short distance.

an help will be appreciated.
thanks

Yeah my medium doesn't make a sound but as I put more pressure from gripping I can feel it move/give a plastic on plastic rubbing feel. Took the med. off and small on and no issue.

Okay, I must be causing trouble.  Do you really have hearing?  Maybe you are young.
My P09 does not make noise that I know of.  I have concerns when my wife says that I don't always hear her voice.  Say what?  Regardless, you may get some helpful comments from the forum members.  What do you think that CZ will suggest regarding your concern?
DeltaGray--thanks for not helping (not providing a good answer to) kwagga32 who asked a serious question.

If it bothers you enough, you might be able to remove the back strap, use a heat gun to warm up the plastic on the back strap rails and then push them a little bit (mash them) at several spots on each side to reduce the clearance in those spots to tighten them up on the rails in the frame.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I've never used the medium, but did have the small and now large on there. Neither move. Couldn't imagine the grip needed to do so. I would switch to the large one and see if the problem persists.

I don't think I have that problem on mine, but my hearing is terrible.  I would try a little grease on all the contact surfaces, slide them on, clean off the excess, and try it.  I've even used dieelectric grease on polymer parts to eliminate the creaking noise (Corvette roof panel locating pins).  If some grease doesn't work, try heat as mentioned above.

Several good recommendations already, here's a few more:
> Keep measuring to see what you find. Data is your friend.
> If there are other people close to you with P-09s, try other backstraps from their pistols on yours and see what results you get.
> Try a shim to take up the gap/length difference. Rummage around for plastic in your recycling bin and trim to fit. If the problem goes away with the shim installed, you verified the problem  and solution.
> Call CZ and see if they will send you a different backstrap or two to try.
My P-09 does not do what you describe, but I have had a Sig pistol grip make annoying cracking sounds and even move around under my hands even when it's mounting screws were tight tight tight.
i will fear no evil, for You are with me.
