anyone try hi viz

I dont want to change the rear sight. I will just black out the rear but i cant see the front. I see dawson is popular but not sure they make a front that works with factory rear. Anyone try the hi viz. I like the fact they have some protection from bumps and bruises.

They are a very high quality sight (kinda pricy though). It did not change my point of aim at all. The green front sight literally JUMPS out at you when in any kind of decent light condition. With a blacked out rear you can shoot real real fast and accurate.

Yep, this. Fiber optic front and blacked out rear is an extremely fast set of sights. I've been running red FB front sight for a while and from now on will be going with only green.

CGW offers the FO front sight for the SP-01 too. That's what I have on my SP-01. It works great.

The sight looks a lot better in sunlight. I have a Hi Viz on my Ruger GP-100 that works great too.

You can get them from Amazon for $26-29 if I remember correctly.Idea of the sight itself is ok,but there is two things I didn't like.First,"optic fiber" inserts that come with the sight are just plastic, they are not fiber optic material.Second, the inside of the hole where you insert optic rod, have a little step to prevent hiviz original bottleneck shaped inserts to go farther back more then necessary. And that little step makes it almost impossible to install any replacement fiber rods in there.Hole in them is 2mm,1.5 is too loose.I would rather go with something else.

I must have 6-8  Hi-Viz sights on different pistols (mostly 1911) none on my CZ however.
I like the Hi -viz first because the fiber rod is larger diameter and easier to pick up, also the rods on mine can be changed easily without destroying the rod, many sets come with several different diameter rods and different colors as well.
I usually put Dawson precision on MY tanfoglio and CZ type weapons, Dawson makes a sight height I think for any gun from a  daisy BB to a cannon.
great folks to do business with.

well I ordered the hi viz lightwaves today from Amazon. $30 shipped so not painful but I read that I may have to file a channel in the bottom for the cross pin. I am usually pretty lucky finding someone who has done it and placed a video on youtube but no luck today. If you have installed them .. what do I need to do to get em on? I have fitted a few dovetail style sights but nothing that needed a pin.

Some people drill the cross pin channel, I'm nervous with a drill bit around my guns so I mark where the channel needs to be from prior sight and use a very small round file to get the channel started. Both sets of hi viz on my cz's needed stoned on the bottom to fit on the front sight. Once fitted you can look through the hole for the pin and see where you need to file more to get the pin in clean. Takes a few times filing and I'm sure a lot longer than drilling but I feel better about it and I don't mind taking my time.
Lot's of options with these as they have 3 red tubes, 3 green tubes, 2 black tubes and 1 white tube when you get the front and rears.

I went ahead and installed the HI VIZ front sight yesterday and took it out to play today. It is AWESOME! Nice and bright so even my old eyes can see it in the poorly lit range I went to today. I like that they have a cage around them to offer some protection to the "light Pipe" The set comes with a plain white opaque pipe, a red light pipe and the green. It is very easy to switch with the supplied key or any small piece of plastic. It is recessed so you get a nice clean circle and the end of the pipe is flared and pretty large. I measured it at 2.2mm in Diameter. I like a blacked out rear and it worked well for me. I was happy to find there is a fair amount of breathing room left and right of the metal front sight post when viewing through the rear sight. Again .. easier for me to align. That is all the good stuff...

The bad
It was a giant pain in the *$^ to install. I have installed some 10 sets of sights over the years so was ready for a bit of fitting and sanding of the bottom. That went off without a hitch and I had a nice fit in about 20 minutes but the HI VIZ does NOT come with the groove cut in the bottom for the pin. You have to make that notch and it aint as easy as you would think.

I didnt want to do the drill bit method and potentially bugger up my slide. I would rather sacrifice the $30 sight then elongate or otherwise enlarge the sight pin hole since it also holds the bushing so I lined up the old sight to the new and made the marks where I thought the sight pin channel should go but there is NO room for error so if you are off even a micron or two the pin doesnt go back in.

Obviously I adapted and overcame but ... In the future ... I still really like the sight but may take a short drive to CZ custom and pay them to install it.
