Front replacement sights that don’t require drilling?
« on: January 30, 2021, 10:05:14 AM »
Seeking information on what replacement front sight options exist without having to drill the “notch” for the retention pin. In other words, what vendors front sights already have the notch , so I don’t need to drill it.

My preferences are for a bold FO/ tritium like front sight, but am open to other options

Thanks in advance

Cajun Gun Works sells one that has the notch.  It's actually made by Dawson's.

I have a set on my 75B.
I have also installed a set of TruGlos and they also have the notch already on the front sight.

If you have to go the other way notching with a dremel is easier than drilling.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Think Dawson makes the one for both CGW and CZ Custom.  Usually found that Dawson will actually have what you want in stock.

Best wishes on your project.

As I have gotten older I see a fiber optic front sight better and I recently installed sights on three of my CZ's, one from CGW (EZD940 set), one from CZ Custom (short tactical set) and one from Dawson (front sight only on Kadet).
I would just mention that when I drilled the front sight, it was just a small amount of reaming required, very little material needed to be removed. If you find a front sight you like, I would not be deterred by having to enlarge the notch on the sight minimally during the fitting.
I am currently experimenting with what color fiber optic rod my eye sees the best. From past experience I knew that green works better than red for me in most situations. I recently bought this assortment of five colors of rods to try.

Good luck with your project...

Just back from the range and with my 66yo eyes with brand new cataract surgery the green F/O worked great. Looks like I'll be changing all my fronts out to green.

Most sights in my experience, even manufacturer notched ones will need drilled/fitted, though they are much easier to drill out…… Its usually 50/50 at best with notched front sights, trying to force the set pin in on a notched one that isn’t a perfect fit is a bad idea……just drill it out, 5/64” bit with some light oil…..much better than forcing the pin.  Always drill so the bit rotates clockwise towards the back of the gun this sets the sight into the dovetail….just a helpful tip

Another tip is set the bit in the retaining pin hole and start it rotating pretty good before pushing it into the sight base slowly, this will prevent the bit from catching and breaking….and they will break, those size bits are small and brittle, buy an extra to have a spare on hand

If your really not comfortable with the drilling method…….taking the sight out an filing the on the notch is an option too.  To each there own……either method will give the same result in the end
