Stainless Barrel for Compacts?
« on: February 17, 2017, 07:35:59 PM »
Has anyone seen a stainless barrel for the compacts? Just picked myself up a P-01 and would really love a stainless barrel. For no other reason than I like the contrast. Thanks!

The black coating can be removed from the barrel. A few forum members have polished theirs out in the past. At the cost of a replacement barrel this may be worth looking into. You could also have a local gunsmith do the work or ship the barrel to CZC or CGW. When the polishing is completed the barrel should look silver and shiny.

Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

What Tok said. The older models did not have the black coating. That's all it is--- a coating. They are the same shiny barrels underneath that are on the older models. [emoji6]
Haven't seen for sure why the coating, I've seen reasons from a rust preventer to a reflection preventer. Either way just remove it.
There's a few threads with different ways to do it. Some lightly sand it off then polish, and I think most have used a stripper (like you would for the frame) to remove the coating. Then polish up with Flitz or some other metal polish.

My older PCR has the "gray" finished barrel.  Years ago, I heard CZ did this for additional lubricity.  Who knows.  I have seen some hard chrome them to avoid rust.  Mine is fine the way it is, and I see no need to change it.  YMMV.

My P-01 OD came with the black barrel. I left it as is since I think the bleck and OD green look better.
All my other came stainless and I polished them.

I have posted a step by step tutorial. With a pic or two. Just search it and you should be good to go. It's an easy process.

I didn't think the barrels were "stainless steel", just carbon steel "in the white".
