AR Sights Won't Work with my Scorpion Carbine
« on: March 07, 2017, 12:28:29 AM »
OK. This is a strange one (for me). I have a SPARC II red dot that I use on a high mount so I can fit the mount for my Caldwell brass catcher to the rail and have clearance when I mount it. That makes the stock iron sights useless. So I decided to mount a pair of Magpul MBUS AR-style sights to get a cowitness with the SPARC. I could not get them to zero in or cowitness. Drove me nuts. Never had a problem like that before. I decided to return them, thinking they were defective. The vendor told me there was nothing wrong with them and asked for more info. After I told him I was using them on a Scorpion, he told me that my CZ will not work with AR-style sights, and that I will run out of adjustment before they zero in. He was right. Anyone else hear of this? I'm beyond confused.

I use the folding Troy Micros, which are a slightly shorter version of the same ones I use on my AR. Remember to zero your iron sight separately from your red dot.

So I'm running a Spar AR with Magpul MBUS sights.  They co-witness perfectly.  I don't know what your problem is.  Maybe your check-weld is poor?  I'm using the Sidepul(?) Magpul Zorkhov(?) stock and this setut is great.

Don't have a scorpion, but I have butt load of AR15's.

When you sight in an AR15 with the back up sights or the optic you don't have POA (point of aim) and POI (point of impact the same at 25 yds.

The POI will be lower than the POA with a .223 or 5.56X45 round.  If you sight it in so that it's POA=POI at 25 yds. the rounds will hit 10 or 12" above your POA at 100 yds.  That's because of the way the AR15/M16 sights are set up and the trajectory of the round, as well as the distances they are used at.

I don't know how you're sighting in your 9MM but it might "sight in" with the impact of the rounds below the POA.

I think, at 25 meters you'd want the POI to be about 1.5 to 2.0 inches below the POA with an AR15.

Again, not sure about the scorpion.  How far do you intend to shoot it?
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I'd also encourage OP to consider the difference in height over bore - the Scorpion top rail sits a fair bit higher than the AR's top rail does, so that's going to throw off a comparative zero as well.

M1A4ME: I don't plan to shoot much beyond 25m, especially with my old eyes and iron or red dot sights. This is mainly a range plinking and backup house gun

Well I'm confused, I'm running Magpul gen II flip ups with an AR height reflex sight on my Scorpion pistol and I have no issues sighting in at 25 yards and my reflex co-witnesses perfectly.

Well, I'm confused as well. I've decided to go a different route now anyway. I've remounted the stock sights and mounted a Holosun red dot on a raised, open platform that allows me to use the iron sights as well. I know there will be parallax differences, but as long as each is zeroed it won't make any difference. Thanks to all for your comments/ideas
