What the heck is a "flash can" and what practical purpose does it serve?

In this instance, and I've definitely made my opinion known that they could have actually made it a functional brake/hider and chose not to.  It essentially just acts like a blast cup and pushes noise forward away from you.  This is like* a linear comp, without the actual linear comp part.  I'd imagine you could also use it to extend a barrel length, or in place of a suppressor if you are running a short barrel and the suppressor is tucked into the handguard.  (To keep it from blasting up the inside of the handguard).  But I'm a bitcher and anything worth doing is worth doing right.  Had they made the cap, and blast cup it would have been better.

Instead of  a flash suppressor it's a  flash enhancer? I guess that might be nifty for nighttime photo shoots or video, or movies, but unless you are using the muzzle flash for strobe like illumination, not sure what else it would be good for. Perhaps it directs enough of the sound, as you said, to the front to make some firearms less annoying on an indoor range? That might be useful.

While I'm sure my opinion is not popular I sometimes see a parallel between the gun community and another community.   :-X

pretty much eliminates the flash like a supressor except it's much much noisier than the supressor of course lol... I'm just running a SLR comp there's not enough flash in 9mm to warrant a flash can purchase. for gods sake people it's like 2-3 black cat fire crackers in the pitch black dark we're not shooting yugo pap pistols here

But every bit helps if you're using it as a primary defense tool at night.

I like my Npap AK.  I know a lot of guys kinda frown on them.

I also have an AK imported from Romania.  No, it isn't exactly a wasr.  It's an IO inc. and yes, it's ran flawlessly for the last 9 years.

Hell my Opap and DDI are my fav ak's.. pap pistol is the fun gun. Opap and NPap are pretty great price point between a Arsenal and a bottom barrel romanian century arms.  MY Npap ws $499.00 shipped a few years ago from preppergunshop now they want like $650 for it so if anything the value is going up

To my mind the "flash can" pistol is ideal for use in a suppressor build.  For a suppressor, I think the longer front stock is nice.

But what most people, especially the newer guys don't know, is that IO started out importing AK's from Romania, just like Century did with the WASR's and while they're not as pretty as other AK's, they're built well.

Granted that my AK was not a typical wasr because it had the east german gas tube and steyr barrel as the Wieger STG-940 , but as I mentioned, I have used that gun a lot and it has yet to give me the first problem.

Sorry for the hijack, now back to the regularly scheduled program.

If you think you're on to something, think again.  They're not built well.  As a veteran AKF member who's watched their pitiful existence continue to manifest itself like cancer over the years... They are the absolute, bar none, bottom of the barrel AK.  From gas ports so over sized the guns would beat themselves to death, cut rate Polish parts, horrible rivet work.  And general worst QC in the industry.  I.O. is as bad as it gets.  What they import through Royal Tiger is what it is.  But anything they build, you do not want.  It may actually be the worst AK, money can buy.

On top of which, the ownership is exactly what you'd expect of people hustling trash and calling it rifles.  The gasp has been earned through years of dedication to building the worst AK's they can pump out.  Century's foul handed monkeys can't even compete.

And I thought the idea was to direct more of the sound of a short barrel (with lots of left over powder burning when the bullet exits the end of the barrel) rifle down range vs. around the muzzle and back to the shooter.

I have a couple of them on AR15 pistols.  One's a Noveske PIG and the other is a cheaper one called a Kineti-Tech.  It is two piece.  The first piece screws on the barrel, like a flash suppressor and has various holes/slots in it, more like a compensator than a flash suppressor though.  The second piece then screws onto the first piece and has only the big hole up front, towards the target.

They seem to work fine.  I've shot them at the range, under the firing line roof/cover and they seem no louder than a short barreled .357 magnum (I've not shot my 4" M29 S&W under a roof/range cover in over 30 years, so I don't remember about it).

Link to a you tube video/test of a KAK flash can.  We put a KAK flash can on my youngest son's .300 BO AR15 pistol but haven't gotten around to shooting it yet, so I can't comment on the KAK vs. the others I've shot.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

OK, that video showed this might have some specific utility, then, especially for indoor work.
