Spring Change for 75B Matte Stainless
« on: April 30, 2017, 07:50:28 PM »
The subject line pistol is the most accurate for me, so if it ain't broke. . .

My SD guns are pretty much stock.  Never had the desire to make them into competition or target guns.  And yes, those SD stock guns shoot just fine!

Should I tempt the fates by messing with my most accurate auto loader, the CZ75 Matte Stainless?

OK -- late last year I stepped my toes in the water and changed out the main spring to 15lb and also switched to a 15 lb recoil spring to see the effects of ejected cartridges -- not that I was perceiving any real problems although said casings from my favorite WIN NATO rounds weren't ejecting as far as I thought they might.  NO PROBLEMS, no real perceived differences from the stock configuration.

Fast forward to today.  Since this isn't my EDC SD gun, why not do the CGW 3 spring kit?  Yeah.  Done.  Although to laugh a bit, when the Firing Pin flung, I found it quick.  I looked for a while for the spring, before giving up -- what the heck, changing it out anyway . . .
After thinking surely the lighter spring was faulty because way too much spring pressure, I discovered that the original spring was still stuck in there!  I had to "paper clip" it out of there!

After all was said and done, the "reduced firing pin block plunger spring" has eliminated one distinct "creep" from the SA trigger pull.  Now only the single standard hammer "creep" is there.  The double action trigger pull although still stout is much reduced.  I can't say if the SA pull is less or not but one less creep as per above makes it even nicer.

Skeptical of messing with the manufacturer's set-up for my collection -- mostly SD and "duty" quality/capable guns I am quite pleased at my initial experience with these mods for the CZ75 Matte Stainless.  Although early and only 33 rounds down range since the mods, a variety of ammunition all ignited and primer strikes look plenty deep enough without the Extended Length Firing Pin.

Having CGW upgraded three of my CZ's now, I can say  the performance hammer is the only way to eliminate SA creep. If you only do one thing in  an upgrade, replace the hammer. My SAO  CZ 75  with  about $300 of CGW parts  has a better trigger than the CZ  shadow 2  or CZ Custom shadow 2.  I was able to check out both at the NRA meeting in Atlanta

You know, the CZ creep doesn't really creep me out.  For some reason, it works.

In addition to a traditional compact (esp. if offered in Stainless), for some reason the SA is calling out to me. . . or is it the used & abuse surplus semi-compact that could use a bit of sanding, spring & pin change, barrel bushing and eventual trip for NP3+ treatment. . hmmmmmm?

Anyway, I digress

I put another 17 rounds of (my favorite for this pistol) Win NATO, including 3 or so double-taps.  Not that I'm counting, but let me say, my second shot of the double was actually ringing steel!  Usually I'm a foot low on the tap in line with gravity.

Shots at 16.3 yards horizontal distance (13 degree downward angle, so target is actually further.

Ejected cases were collected afterwards a distance from 8 to 16 ft away.  I didn't try to observe where they were landing before bouncing about (wood deck and/or concrete).
