Just got a tristar t120. Looking to lower sa trigger pull.
« on: July 09, 2017, 07:26:07 PM »
New to the world of cz style guns. I shoot idpa and made the mistake of shooting a buddies sp-01. 2 days later i had a t120.

Do i need a new hammer to get the sa pull lower? Or will the cajun 23 peice spring kit get it lower? I know it will lower the da. Thanks!

Unless you reduce the height of the hammer hooks or replace the hammer with a comp hammer there isn't much else that will reduce the S/A pull. Hammer or main spring will help in D/A. Check rules to see what you are allowed to change before hand.

BEFORE you go modifying your T120, just shoot it as is for a bit.  You might find it works well.

Except for the grips, I shoot mine in USPSA/IPSC, bone stock, Limited Hi Cap division.

Doesn't the CGW spring set reduce trigger pull a bit?

I have installed the 3-piece spring kit from CGW, makes a difference in DA pull weight and smoothness (I think mine's down to 8 lbs) but not so much in SA. CGW now has the Canik Hammer kit that they claim reduces the SA, but no specifics as to how much. I am about to order the hammer kit and a flat trigger for my P120 but need more resources on how to install all the parts myself. I know the P120 is more or less a clone of the SP01 Tactical on the outside, but unsure if they have the same internal workings. Been trying to search through the forums for this info, I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction :)

The Race hammer is what will lower the SA. You can get the Canik hammer kit or call and see if you can buy just the hammer. You'd have to fit the sear safety arm if you get just the hammer. I think the normal race hammer is rated at 3.5 lbs on average. I'd assume that's the average for the Canik hammer kits version.

It is a cloner internally but you'd have to call CGW and see what parts are exactly interchangeable. I know they recently brought back parts for Tristar and Canik clones, so I'm pretty sure the hammer is different. I looked inside a Tristar yesterday for the first time and you could follow the video tutorials in the gunsmithing sub forum and be fine as far as instructions. Again, give CGW a call to verify what parts can be interchanged vs needing Tristar specific parts.

The reduced power trigger return spring would make the largest impact on your single action trigger. The reduced main spring does affect it also but to a much smaller degree. The return spring does make a difference and matched with the hammer makes a huge difference.
